New episode is out today, a week later than anticipated.

It’s a week late because Ava was sick. But it’s also late because since last year (when I wrote it), I have been constantly debating myself whether or not to actually release this one.

The episode is about how strange it is that we have kids without being able to ask them if they want to exist. I don’t think it’s a controversial thing to think about myself - but when I’ve broached it with others, it’s clear they have thought I was horrible. As someone who has had some pretty significant mental health battles over the years, it’s something I’ve gone over countless times, and I am not sure I’ve ever presented the topic correctly.

So, massive content notes all round. This episode deals with religion, depression, climate change, existentialism, and the end of the world. It’s not meant to be depressing but it probably is. But it’s only depressing because of how much I love our daughter and how incomplete I would feel if she hadn’t been born.

Exhausting couple of weeks. We feel wiped out, and burned out. Healthy habits have completely evaporated and sleep has turned into a stop-start battle of nightmares. Covid is popping up everywhere and they say little ones will probably be ok - but it’s hard to find that reassuring when this one deteriorates so worryingly with any viral infection.

Then, of course, she makes these faces and laughs her ass off being cheeky, and it starts feeling ok.

New episode tomorrow btw. It was written pre-omicron so it feels like a million years ago. It’s barely about parenting, honestly, and it kind of made me laugh listening to it how easy it is to take a hypothetical future for granted when your kids are healthy.

Back again. Hospital visit number 6. No episode this week as there was quite a bit of work to do on this weeks one, and instead the whole family has pretty much each had a complete breakdown (in my case multiple breakdowns). I struggle with dadding at the best of times, but this s**t just leaves me demoralised and absolutely worthless.

This s**t hurts. It just fu***ng sucks. Ava is so traumatised by the hospital but she deteriorates so badly that she just always winds up here increasing that trauma.

Gonna get referred to an ENT specialist, but the wait list is a year long. Have to love those generationally underfunded health systems!
