🎸 Remembering Robert Taylor 🎶

New Zealand music has lost one of its greats.
Longtime Dragon guitarist Robert Taylor has passed away.

Taylor joined Dragon back in 1974, helping shape their signature sound — including those iconic chords on April Sun in Cuba, written by Paul Hewson on a broken guitar.

Known for his soulful playing and easy charm, Taylor’s story was as colourful as his music — from his early days in Waipukurau to his years lighting up stages across Aotearoa and beyond.

Fellow Kiwi band Hello Sailor shared their tribute:

“So sad to hear we’ve lost Robert Taylor. A lovely man and such a tasty player. Rock on old chum.”

Our thoughts are with his whānau, friends, and the Dragon family.
🎵 Rest easy, Robert — your music lives on.

🚧 Important Travel Update for Coromandel Drivers 🚧

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi - Waikato are starting a major rebuild on State Highway 25A (Kōpū–Hikuai Road) to make it safer and more resilient.

🛠 Daytime closures begin Monday 10 November and will run Monday to Saturday, 8am–5pm, for approximately two weeks.
The road will reopen each day as a single lane from 5pm.

This work involves rebuilding two separate 1km sections, so it’s not practical to complete overnight.

🚗 Please plan ahead and use the detour route shown in the pictures if you’re travelling between the Coromandel and the Waikato.

NZTA Set to Deliver New Bridge for SH25 Boundary Creek On Schedule

State Highway 25 (SH25) is set to reopen right on time this Wednesday at 5am, this will be positive news for Coromandel locals and businesses with the completion of a brand new bridge deck at Boundary Creek on the Thames Coast. The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) and its dedicated contractors have worked 24/7 to ensure the vital upgrade is delivered as planned.

Favorable weather and the team’s round-the-clock efforts during the 7-day closure have been helpful, NZTA has stayed on schedule as well as completing additional work.

Starting Wednesday, SH25 will initially operate as a single lane with stop/go management, ensuring safe travel. By Monday, 10 November, both lanes and the nearby passing bay will be fully open, promising even better traffic flow for locals, visitors, and businesses alike.

The project kicked off with two weeks of critical repairs to strengthen the bridge’s supports, followed by a full closure last Wednesday to remove the old deck and install the new one. By Sunday night, the new bridge deck was successfully in place, complete with a fresh asphalt topcoat. Over the final two days of the closure, the team is putting the finishing touches on bridge expansion joints, crash barriers, and road markings to ensure a safe and seamless experience for drivers.

Looking ahead, some minor finishing work will continue after the reopening, but this won’t impact travel, keeping the road fully accessible.

With the Boundary Creek bridge upgrade on track, NZTA is now preparing for the next phase of improvements on SH25a Kopu-Hikuai.
