To our valued sponsors, attendees, volunteers, suppliers and community

A Taste of Matarangi celebrated 🔟 events in 2025 and has been a huge success with over $150,000 donated to community groups over the years! This year we have seen some changes happening with a number of our wonderful long serving volunteers deciding to take a break from assisting and managing the event, this has left a huge gap in the organising of next year's event. This happening, along with the need to legally formalise some processes around the running of the event has left the rest of the volunteer committee having to make the decision, after much deliberation, to push pause on 2026.

Please don't be alarmed as we already have a date for 2027 - April 3rd, 2027. Along with the ATOM event the newly formed committee/trust are hoping that there will be scope to hold other events in Matarangi and the surrounding areas for everyone to enjoy.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at [email protected]

Thank you for your understanding.

A message to all those keen to see a ferry service return to the Coromandel

Help bring back the Coromandel Ferry!
We know how important a ferry service is to the Coromandel Peninsula - for locals, businesses and visitors alike.
That's why the Coromandel - Colville Business Association (CCBA) is working with our community to advocate for the return of a regular Auckland - Coromandel ferry service.
JOIN US for a community drop in session! Wednesday July 17, 10am - 2pm at the Combined Clubrooms, Woollams Ave, Coromandel.
OPEN TO ALL - come share your ideas

We need your help to
* Show potential ferry operators that there is real demand
* Share what kind of service would work for you
* Explore local opportunities for land-based transport, logistics and visitor experiences

YOUR VOICE MATTERS! This is a community led project - by the community, for the community.

An Update this Evening from the TCDC Comms Department relating to our Canadian Geese issue:

Goose Management in Matarangi

Late this week, Thames-Coromandel District Council will be carrying out a night shoot to manage the growing goose population in Matarangi (weather dependant). This action addresses significant community concerns and ensures the safety and usability of our reserves and waterways.

Why is this happening?

The population of geese in Matarangi is causing devastating damage to our green spaces. Approximately 500 geese are causing widespread issues in Matarangi on public and private land, including:

* A minefield of droppings on sidewalks, creating slippery and hazardous conditions.
* Damaging landscaped and grassy areas.
* Aggression towards other bird species.
* Contaminating waterways with waste, affecting water quality.

How will it be done?

A professional contractor will conduct the cull at night, using low-powered ammunition and a silencer to minimize noise. A quad bike will be used for efficient movement across the area and temporary signage at primary entrances will be in use while the work is underway.

Safety and approvals

This process has been approved by the police and measures are in place to ensure minimal disturbance to nearby residents and the community.

All animal remains will be removed.

We recognize that this is a sensitive issue, but it’s a necessary step to address ongoing problems reported by residents. Thank you for your understanding as we work to maintain the safety and well-being of Matarangi.

Feel free to contact the TCDC if you have any questions.
