The elite Ukrainian troops have destroyed a Russian Buk surface-to-air missile system near Popasna, Donetsk region. The Come Back Alive Foundation released footage, which appears to have been shot from a drone, showing what appears to be Buk-M1 (SA-11 Gadfly) mobile medium-range surface-to-air missile system being targeted and destroyed. “HIMARS strike destroyed an enemy air defense system in occupied Popasna. The aerial reconnaissance of the 45th separate artillery brigade adjusted the fire of our rocket launchers,” the Foundation message added....

A little girl from Panama born with heart problems has died in Border Patrol custody, according to a United States government statement on Thursday, marking the second death in two weeks of a child in custody from Latin America. The 8-year-old girl and her family were being held in Harlingen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley, one of the busiest corridors for border crossings....

Gary Prado Salmón, who as a Bolivian Army captain led the operation that captured the Argentine revolutionary Che Guevara, a critical ally of Fidel Castro’s in the Cuban revolution, in 1967, died on May 6 in a hospital in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The Australian Government has awarded the multi-million dollar contract to supply additional Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles. According to a press release from the Department of Defense, Thales Australia was awarded a $160 million contract to supply 78 Bushmaster vehicles for the Australian Defense Force. Bushmasters will continue to be manufactured in Bendigo, Victoria, with the first delivery expected in 2024....

Israeli defense company Elbit Systems said it won a contract worth $305 million to supply Precise & Universal Launching System (PULS) artillery rocket systems to the Royal Netherlands Army. The company says the contract will be performed over a period of five years. Under the contract, Elbit Systems will supply 20 PULS artillery rocket systems integrated on the COMMIT (previously DMO) selected truck platform, as well as rockets and missile of various ranges and training and support services....

Partial border controls between Russia and Belarus return for first time in decades. Belarus has partially restored controls on its border with Russia, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik said, the first time in almost 30 years that there have been checks at the 1,239km (770 miles) frontier between the two staunch allies. Ukraine’s foreign minister told a top Chinese envoy that Kyiv would not accept any proposals to end the war with Russia that involved Ukraine losing territory or the of the placing the conflict on hold, the Ukrainian foreign ministry said.
