An expat has been arrested by Royal Oman Police (ROP), with more than 6,000 boxes of ci******es and over 9,000 packs of prohibited to***co products. A statement issued online by ROP said : "Al-Dakhiliya Governorate Police Command arrests an expatriate on charges of possessing ci******es and to***co derivatives. Seized from his possession were more than 6,130 boxes of ci******es and 9,714 packs of prohibited to***co derivatives . Legal measures are being taken against him."

The total number of guests in the three- to five-star category in Oman fell by 23.5 per cent at the end of March to stand at 298,885 guests compared to 390,642 guests for the same period of 2020. According to the latest monthly statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total revenues of these hotels also fell to RO21.274 million ($55 million) in March 2021, compared to RO53.747 million ($139.2 million) during the same period of the previous year, marking a drop by 60.4 per cent....

The total number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered in the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) till the end of April 2021 stood at 52,524, compared to 44,139 in April 2020, an increase of 19 per cent, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The number of SMEs registered in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 17,692 at the end of April 2021, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 8,310, the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah with 6,554 comprising an increase of 17.6 per cent, the Governorate of Dhofar with 4,388, the Governorate of South Al-Batinah with 3,981, the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah with 3,488 comprising an increase by 16.3 per cent, and the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah with 3,123....

Starting today, the new hiring fees for expatriates come into effect, in keeping with Ministerial Decision No. 12/2021. “The new fees for work permits for non-Omani workforces for upper and intermediate occupations and technical and specialised professions, as well as for new work permits and fees for new businesses, will be in force starting from June 1, 2021,” said a statement from the Ministry of Labour....
