When a fish spits the jig, immediately start jigging it again. Roosters and other pelagics will follow the one hooked trying to steal its meal. I dropped one rooster but immediately hooked another to score big points on day one of the 2026 Nations Cup of Saltwater Kayak Fishing. Another gold medal in the bag for Team USA… on the 4th of July no less! 🏆🥇🇺🇸

USA takes the Gold baby! 18 kayak anglers from Team USA and Team Canada met in the jungles of Panamá to duke it out head-to-head in the 2026 Saltwater Kayak Fishing Nations Cup.

The scores were TIGHT after Day 1 with the bite absolutely on fire, but once it cooled off, our boys showcased their ability to adapt and get creative and put up consistent results to take home 1st place. So damn proud of this group of guys. They qualified for the international team in last year’s National Championship in Florida, and their performances this week proved they deserved to be here.

The fishing was on fire with roosterfish, yellowfin tuna, and mahi caught every day amidst about 25 other species… all caught on lures launching off the beach. On Day One alone the group landed 17 roosters and 19 tuna.

Huge thanks to Morris Palmer and the staff at Los Buzos for hosting what was FAR AND AWAY the most well-organized and smoothly run international tournament we have competed in yet.

Team Canada earned my utmost respect this week. Many of them were freshwater anglers who came to a foreign fishery and figured it out quickly. They blew my expectations out of the water with their skill, work ethic and ability to dissect this fishery. And, more importantly, they’re just a fantastic group of human beings.

It feels good to take home the W on 4th of July weekend. But even better are the new friendships made and old ones strengthened.

What a week! Now it’s time for some rest and to start editing this video series before ICAST in a couple weeks.

Huge thanks to Lightning Kayaks and KastKing for making yaks and rods/reels that I can depend on when Gold is on the line. My gear performed flawlessly all 3 days.
