Se viene nuevo álbum de Ron Carter!!
With the coming release of Sweet, Sweet Spirit, my jazz-gospel hybrid album with Dr. Ricky Dillard, I would next like to highlight Dave Darlington and his Bass Hit Recording and Production Studio, for whose work helped to make this all possible.
His studio is specifically engineered for maximizing the sounds of the bass, a reason of many that it is one of my favorite places to record. His musical education began at a young age, having left New York City with family to live in Florida, starting with formal training f bass, piano and theory along with a mix of Miami's rock and funk scene.
His career began when in exchange for borrowing his university’s upright bass, he agreed to own the student orchestra. This small moment would lead to his pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Florida, and experience with the Jacksonville Symphony and Gold Coast (Tampa) Symphony Orchestras as a professional bassist, later becoming the Assistant Principal.
Mr. Darlington, Grammy award winner, later settled in New York to pursue work as a session musician. His efforts aided him a on as a part-time programmer at Secret Sound Recording Studio in Chelsea. Jerry Ragavoy, owner and songwriter, promoted him to in-house engineer at Counterpoint Studios. Around 20 years later from his move back to New York, Mr. Darlington opened his very own studio, Bass Hit. The studio would then go on to move locations in the city but remains a critically acclaimed space.
I would like to thank Mr. Darlington once again for his time and dedication to bring this project to its fullest potential. Sweet, Sweet Spirit will be released on February 6th, 2026, however preorders are already available, so visit www.RonCarterJazz.com to order your copy.
