4 E-Learning localization problems that show up in almost every project — and how we solve them. 🎓

If you manage multilingual E-Learning projects, you've probably run into at least one of these:

1️⃣ RTL languages breaking the course structure
Arabic and Hebrew aren't just mirrored English. The entire course layout, navigation flow, and interaction logic needs to be rebuilt for right-to-left reading. We've done it. Many times.

2️⃣ Text overflow in European languages
German, Finnish, and Dutch can expand translated text by 30–40%. Every button, label, and text box has to be manually adjusted — or the course looks broken.

3️⃣ CJK fonts not rendering in the LMS
Japanese, Chinese, and Korean require specific font embedding and SCORM configuration. If it's not done right, learners see blank boxes instead of characters.

4️⃣ Audio out of sync after localization

The language changes. The design has to change too. 📐

Many people think multilingual desktop publishing is just "pasting the translation into the original file." In reality, it's far more complex than that.

Some real challenges we face in every project:

📏 Text expansion: Translating from English to German can increase text volume by up to 40%. If the layout isn't planned for it, the whole design falls apart.

↔️ RTL languages: Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi read from right to left. It's not just about flipping the text — it means redesigning the entire page.

🈳 CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean): Special typefaces, unique spacing, optional vertical writing. Each with its own set of rules.

🔤 Special fonts and glyphs: Not every font supports extended European characters, Cyrillic, or Thai scripts.
