Worldschooling in Peru gave us a gift! It stripped away the idea that fun needs to be complicated.

We arrived thinking we had to plan and pack the excitement. But we watched our kids find endless adventure in the simplest things—a pile of rocks, a grassy slope, an ancient wall.

We learned to say "go see what you can find" instead of "follow the schedule." The frustration of over-planned outings melted away, replaced by the deep focus and pure joy of kids lost in their own discoveries.

This isn't about a fancy trip trying to see every single sight. It's a mindset. It's trading the stress of orchestrating fun for the peace of letting it happen. It's realizing that a child with space and curiosity is already on the greatest adventure of all.

And there's still so much more to learn on this parenting adventure!

We're worldschooling in Peru right now and decided, maybe let's take the kids to Machu Picchu. With a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old, it was exactly as chaotic and wonderful as you’d imagine.

We didn’t follow a tour. Jeremy was the tour guide, reenacting Inca life with more enthusiasm than accuracy, much to the kids' delight. Our photos are less perfect family shot and more authentic toddler moment - someone is usually mid-bite, mid-whine, or mid-escape. But in a way, that feels just right for this season - all of us together, exploring a new place, fully enjoying the moment. The questions (from Toby: "how did the Incas bring all these stones here?"), the snacking, the nursing and carrier adjustments, these were the moments we'd remember.

We didn’t conquer Machu Picchu. We just wandered through it together, and left with hearts a little fuller, socks a little dirtier, and arms with way more mosquito bites than I would like.

Missing you all and wishing you could’ve been there in the chaos with us.

Come follow us on more worldschooling adventures!

Love,
The Cheeky Nuts 🌄💛

Hot or cold? City or coast? Why choose when you can pack for both! Our next worldschooling destination has us ready for anything. First one to guess it right gets a postcard! 📮

One year ago, we packed our entire life into 10 suitcases and followed a call that led us from Singapore 🇸🇬 to Washington DC 🇺🇸

Hello! We're Jeremy + Pearlyn! We are lay missionaries, determined idealists and crazy parents to two cheeky kids - Toby and Edith. When we moved for Jeremy's PhD in Theology (specializing in marriage + family + personhood) last year, we not only said yes to a mountain of books, but also to living the marriage and family experiment of breaking generational patterns, asking big questions, and finding God in toddler tantrums and library books alike.

This is our journey of:
🌎 Worldschooling with wonder through everyday adventures
🔥 Learning about life through theology and toddler questions
🐥 Breaking generational patterns through respectful and (mostly) gentle parenting (we try 😅)
🏡 Questioning everything and building a marriage and home grounded in intentional choice (not default scripts)
⛪ Making our faith real—from Mass to meltdowns

Because what good is a PhD in marriage and family if we don’t:
- Love better when tired?
- Forgive quicker when frustrated?
- Choose intentionally when overwhelmed?

Thanks for following us on our cheekynuts adventures! ❤️

When we were back in Singapore, we've always received funny looks and concern comments at playgrounds telling us that Toby is too high, too small, or doing something too dangerous. But here’s the thing: kids rise (literally) to the expectations we set.

Today, when a boy told him "You’re too small for that!", he replied: "I am trying. I am capable." 🥹🥹🥹

This is why we:
• Let them climb (while staying close)
• Bite our tongues instead of yelling 'Be careful!’
• Cheer louder when they almost fall than when they succeed

Because playgrounds aren’t just play—they’re practice for life.

Parenting is hard enough without the playground side-eye. 😅
If you’ve ever been judged for ‘risky’ play, drop a ❤️ below - we see you, we’re with you, and we’re rewriting the rules together.
