So cool to see my photo of Daffy and Zorah printed in magazine!
The photo is from Bajan Grooms, a series that follows the caretakers of Barbados’ racehorses.
A little on how it got here: last year I won an Eddie at the , where the prize gave me the opportunity to develop a story pitch with National Geographic. Like the workshop itself, the award turned into a really valuable learning experience.
Through that process, I connected with their talented editorial team and learned more about how stories are shaped for the magazine.
Everyone I worked with thoughtful and amazing and I feel really lucky to have had this opportunity :)

For now, this photo was selected to appear in the magazine’s In Focus which feels really special.

These are my grandfather and his crew laying railroad tracks in Peru sometime in the late ‘30s. When I printed these 4x5 negatives, I became fixated on their outfits and decided to hand-color them, imagining them a bit more fabulous than the reality of the era.
My grandfather is the one in those incredible green lace-up boots.

Photosynthetic Memories, forest floor
For this series I’ve been making lumen prints, which I create by placing plants atop photosensitive paper in their environments. In this process, sunlight interacts with the whatever is on the surface and the blank paper transforms into a record or memory of the environment. The results can’t be fully controlled, and much like memory, the image itself is unstable, unfixed and unpredictable.
In this set I made the prints with what I found on the forest floor, with plants that were alive and growing or and leaves that had fallen, trying to intervene as little as possible with what was already there.

As part of my new work, I’ve been exploring plant sentience, the idea that plants can feel, communicate and consciously experience their environment. In Amazonian cosmologies plants possess a spirit. Many of them are teachers, capable of communicating with humans through dreams and visions.
To begin visualizing this, I’ve been experimenting with photosensitive processes, collaborating with living plants and their environments.
For this, the mimosa púdica plant is really interesting to work with. It senses it’s environment, opening and closing when it perceives change or danger, and even demonstrating forms of memory.
Above are images I created of Mimosas, my process, and excerpts from readings from my work in the cloud forest of the Cordillera Escalera near Tarapoto 🇵🇪

Beyond European-style “fairies,” many Amazonian traditions speak of guardian spirits: small but powerful beings connected to plants, animals, rivers, and the land.
These protectors are believed to keep the forest’s balance. When respected, harmony thrives. When the forest is harmed, they make their presence known through nature itself.

As much as I wanted these photos to be of fairies, they’re actually Amazonian stingless bees. These tiny, often overlooked creatures are key to the forest’s survival. They pollinate, sustain biodiversity, and keep the ecosystem in balance.
I’ve been fascinated with documenting this species since 2021 and will be sharing new insights into their world soon 🐝✨🌿
