Season 2 Episode 2: Why did they let Emily’s wife and son leave but not her? I understand the marriage license wasn’t valid in Gilead. But since at the airport they are talking to Gilead ICE and they are determining who gets to leave (not who gets to enter Canada) they arent applying logic evenly. Either 1. Gilead want to keep fertile women to have more kids or 2. They want to punish gay women.
If 1. why didn’t they ask Emily’s wife about her fertility as well? And if they want kids in the country to raise and influence why did they let their son go? If oliver was Emilys biological child (proving her fertility) why didnt Gilead then say he couldn’t be a citizen of Canada because his true mother was not a Canadian.
If 2. why didn’t they keep her wife to punish as well? She was also gay. Or alternative if they dont like gay women, why didn’t they let them both go so they wouldn’t be in the community?
It makes no sense. I could see if they were talking to a Canadian immigration officer Emily might be rejected as a non-citizen but Canada supposedly still recognizes the marriage license as valid. So logically they should let her in.
The only possibility I see is they don’t want to appear to be detaining international citizens to avoid conflicts, but then wouldnt the Canadian government still see Emily as a family member and extend travel/VISA privileges?
Am I missing something?
