The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC-PNG) Dedua Circuit is preparing to celebrate a major milestone this September with the official opening of its newly constructed Circuit Office in Zageheme Village, located in the Sialum Local Level Government area of Tewai-Siassi District.

The new facility represents the first permanent administrative hub for the Dedua Circuit, aimed at improving coordination of church activities, outreach ministries, and broader community development programs in the region.

Project Committee Chairman Mr. Benson Bernard has commended the dedication and hard work of the local community in making the vision a reality.

“This building stands as a testament to our collective faith, unity, and determination,” said Mr. Bernard. “It’s more than just an office — it’s a foundation for growth, service, and spiritual leadership.”

Mr. Bernard also acknowledged the strong backing of the local Member of Parliament for Tewai-Siassi and Minister for Housing and Urbanization. The Tewai-Siassi District Development Authority (DDA) committed K300,000 in funding toward the construction of the new office, a contribution that was instrumental in the project’s completion.

The official opening, set for September, will be a significant occasion for the church and the wider community, highlighting the power of faith-driven development and the importance of partnership between local leadership and grassroots communities.

The new Circuit Office is expected to play a vital role in enhancing the Dedua Circuit’s administrative functions and expanding its impact throughout the district.

🔔 Big Health Milestone for Papua New Guinea! 🇵🇬

📅 June 4, 2025 – A historic day for public health in PNG! The Government of Papua New Guinea, in proud partnership with UNICEF and key health partners, has launched Phase One of the Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination (MNTE) Campaign—starting in Port Moresby and seven priority provinces.

🦠 Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) is a deadly yet preventable disease. Through this campaign, PNG is taking bold action to protect mothers and newborns across the country.

What the campaign offers:

✅ FREE Tetanus Vaccines for all girls and women aged 15–44, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers (3 doses for full protection).
✅ Support for Pregnant Women: Free Mama Books, Iron and Folic Acid supplements, and vital info on antenatal care and safe delivery.
✅ Child Health Services: Routine immunization for children under 2 against 10 vaccine-preventable diseases.

💬 This campaign is more than vaccines—it's about empowering women, protecting children, and strengthening our healthcare system.

We call on all eligible women and girls to take part—and urge husbands, partners, parents, and community leaders to support them.

Let’s work together to eliminate tetanus and ensure a healthier future for PNG! 💪🌿

PNG Makes History with First-Ever Kidney Transplant at PMGH
----------------------------------------------------------------

Papua New Guinea has reached a historic medical milestone with the successful completion of its first-ever kidney transplant operation at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH).

The procedure began shortly after the hospital received the green light from the National Executive Council (NEC). According to PMGH CEO, a healthy kidney was harvested from a living donor on Wednesday afternoon, and the recipient was immediately taken in for surgery.

By 5am this morning, the recipient began producing urine – a strong sign that the transplanted kidney is functioning well.

Leading the groundbreaking operation is renowned kidney surgeon Dr. Damien Hasola from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. A second transplant case has already been confirmed for later today.

Dr. Hasola, who has long championed the establishment of kidney transplant services in PNG, described the moment as the fulfillment of a dream. His leadership and dedication have now placed PNG on the map for organ transplant surgery.

Beyond the operating theatre, Dr. Hasola is also the father of the current Miss PNG 2024. Last year, his family faced online harassment, prompting a public statement of support from Prime Minister James Marape. Today, he is being recognized not only as a brilliant surgeon but also as a proud and resilient Papua New Guinean.

Well done to Dr. Hasola and Team PNG for this life-saving achievement.

Preparations Begin for 35th ELC PNG Synod on Siassi Island
____________________________________________

Preparations are underway for the 35th Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELC PNG) Synod, following a groundbreaking ceremony held on May 12 at Bunsil Station, Siassi Island, in the Tewae Siassi District.

Officiated by Housing Minister and local MP Dr. Kobby Bomareo, the event marked the start of major infrastructure developments ahead of the Synod, scheduled for January 2026. Over K10 million has been allocated by the district for projects including the redevelopment of Bunsil Government Station, construction of Bunsil High School, and key facilities such as a multipurpose hall, classrooms, housing, dormitories, and upgraded utilities.

Airstrips, the local jetty, and logistics support will also be improved to accommodate the thousands of delegates expected from across PNG and abroad.

Dr. Bomareo thanked the Marape-Rosso Government for its backing and called for cooperation between church, government, and communities to ensure timely completion. The ELC PNG Synod, held binually, is a significant church event promoting spiritual unity and development dialogue.

South Bougainville Cocoa Exports Gaining Momentum
__________________________________________
South Bougainville is emerging as a rising star in Papua New Guinea’s cocoa industry, with local farmers driving a wave of transformation that began in 2021. That year marked a turning point when the region regained its cocoa export license unlocking new opportunities for communities across the district.

Since then, between 2,000 and 3,000 bags of cocoa have been regularly transported to Rabaul for export to international markets. This steady growth has not gone unnoticed, with a recent Facebook post by Captain Charles Kabilu of the NGIP Agmark vessel drawing widespread attention to the district’s success.

The post highlighted the dedication of farmers in South Bougainville and Buin District, whose hard work is now being celebrated on social media and beyond. As the momentum builds, South Bougainville is reclaiming its name as a key player in PNG’s cocoa trade.
