"UFETO COFFEE CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY LAUNCHED it's COFFEE STORAGE SHED & RESOURCE CENTRE"
Part 01.
Rothmans Community in Ufeto area of Goroka District became the host to the Launching of Ufeto Coffee Cooperative Society's Coffee Storage Shed & Resource Centre. The facility was funded under CIC-PACD Project's Component 3.1 - Productive Partnerships through its Lead Partner Sorex Coffee Producers.
Ufeto Coffee Cooperative Society is one of the three beneficiaries to such infrastructures namely; Emagave Agri Cooperative Society and Siave Coffee Cooperative Society.
They initially began as three (3) of Sorex Coffee Producers target communities (Emagave, Lapegu, Ufeto) for project implementation under CIC-PACD Project's Component 3.1 - Productive Partnerships.
They were elevated further by formally registering their respective communities' Coffee Co-operatives Societies with PNG Cooperative Societies Ltd through assistance provided by Coffee Cooperative Crusade (3Cs) Program under CIC-PACD Project.
CIC-PACD Project headed by Country Project Manager Potaisa Hombunaka accompanied by officers Raymond Dalla with Benjamin Kasito were invited to officiate this special occassion coinciding with the issuing of three Coffee Cooperative Society Certificates.
This was witnessed by the communities of Emagave, Hegu, Lapegu, Ufeto, Kamayufa and the neighbouring communities at large.
Hombunaka in his keynote address reminded the Coffee Co-operatives Societies' members coffee is an important generational cash crop that has and will continue to sustain their livelihoods for generations including their basic needs and necessities.
"It is important to take note that, these three (3) facilities are built as an intervention to assist you the coffee farmers to store your parchment coffee bags, process them into green bean and sell them through group marketing concept under your respective coffee cooperative societies, earning a better premium price for your hard earned cash crop", he said.
In conclusion Hombunaka emphasized that the Coffee Cooperative Society Certificate is an important legal document to formally recognise Emagave, Siave and Ufeto Coffee Cooperative Societies as an entity to operate and assist the small-holder coffee farmers who are also members of the coffee cooperative societies.
