Galilo Community Encouraged to Embrace Peace
The Nakanai District Development Authority (DDA), led by the Minister for Oil Palm and Member for Nakanai, Francis Galia Maneke, together with District Administrator Jeffery Osa, Chief (Suara) Sir Batari, ward members, and community leaders, visited Galilo village to promote peace and reconciliation following a prolonged period of conflict and community lockdown.
During the gathering, Minister Maneke announced his commitment to provide a Lucas Mill to the Galilo community to assist with rebuilding the church that was destroyed during the recent conflict between the Galilo and Vavua communities. The mill is intended to support recovery efforts and help the community rebuild important infrastructure as they move forward in peace and unity.
Addressing the community, Minister Maneke stressed the importance of forgiveness, reconciliation, and maintaining harmony among the people of Nakanai.
"This must be the first and the last time such conflict happens between our people. We are all brothers and sisters. We are Nakanai people, and our strength comes from unity, not division. We must stop fighting each other and instead support one another for the benefit of our children and future generations," he said.
The Minister noted that meaningful development can only occur when communities live together peacefully and work collectively toward common goals. He said the commitment to provide the Lucas Mill demonstrates the district's support for rebuilding not only physical structures but also relationships and community spirit.
Minister Maneke encouraged both the Galilo and Vavua communities to put aside past differences and focus on rebuilding their lives, strengthening community ties, and creating opportunities for future generations.
Community leaders welcomed the commitment and expressed their appreciation to the Nakanai DDA for supporting peace and development initiatives within the area. They also pledged to work together to maintain lasting peace and unity.
The commitment of the Lucas Mill stands as a symbol of reconciliation, healing, and the shared determination to restore peace and development throughout the district.
