NATIONAL ENERGY AUTHORITY AND BDA LIGHTS UP BALUAN.

The People of Baluan in the Balopa LLG, Manus Province can now energy the simple benefits of rural electrification thanks to the installment of a Solar farm on the Island by the PNG National Energy Authority (NEA).
Commissioned just a week before Papua New Guinea Celebrates its Golden Jubilee the occasion was very historical among the elders especially those of whom were alive to witness the early years of Papua New Guinea in its Nationhood infancy.

Deputy Managing director and Executive Manager Projects for NEA Mr. Eddie Megao in commemorating the event paid a special tribute to the people of Baluan for the allocation of land and labour for the implementation of this project expressing his gratitude he recommended the deliverance of this prospect is not only just for the island but many more rural areas in Papua New Guinea will also benefit from this Off-grid electrification program now being regulated by the Authority. Representing the Department of National Planning Miss Melissa Simon reassured the service roll outs as compliant with PNG MTDP IV to expand electricity access and more importantly fostering renewable energy like Solar.
Owner of SAK Energy the primary contractor specially commended the locals on their tireless efforts in construction especially in material delivery as Baluan’s remoteness and absence of heavy lifting machinery wasn’t just a hindrance but adjustments where Mr. Jessie Pakalu expressed realization from the experience to consider when rolling out this prospect in other parts of the country.
The Project facilitated by the Baluan Development Association (BDA) is a mini solar plant covering nearly 1700 square meters and can potentially measure an output of 100kW of electricity to four wards on Baluan Island. Chairman of BDA Mr. John Solok expressed his gratitude for the people of Baluan for the openness to allow such projects and cooperation to implement them also present there was his long time childhood friend and Manus Island Tourism Association President Mr. Ben Pokarup to witness the occasion expressing it’s a way forward for development and other industries like tourism on Baluan Island to capitalize on the opportunity.

BDA Director Mr. Solok also took the opportunity to announce the initiation of another project in Commercial Agriculture for the Island worth over K1 million from UK’s Climate Action for a Resilient Asia-Pacific (CARA) program, this funding comes after a previous successful project also facilitated by BDA which was a delivery of climate resilient Water Supply last year 2024.

Amid celebrations in Lorengau today marking PNGs 50th Annivesary, NBC Manus Provincial Radio has installed a new 1-kilowatt transmitter.

The installation was confirmed by the station's technician, Mr. Ezekiel Gersom.

With the transmitter now in place, NBC Manus is conducting test transmissions.

Listeners are encouraged to tune in to 95.5 FM and send a message confirming their listening location.

Senior Presenter Mrs. Anna Kajoka expressed gratitude to the Manus Provincial Government for their ongoing support in maintaining NBC Manus’s operations.

CO**SE DRIFTS ASHORE ON MBUNAI VILLAGE, MANUS PROVINCE.

A deceased body of a man was discovered this morning Thursday 5th September at Mbunai Village in the Penabu Nali Sopat LLG, south coast of Manus Province. Fishermen discovered the body sometime around 6 am to 7am very early in the morning a float between Ndrover Island and Mbunai mainland. Immediately recognizing the co**se the fishermen with other locals recovered the body and floated it ashore before notifying Manus Police in Lorengau Town.
Although there haven’t been any notifications of missing persons in the area or outer nearby local islands, the body as now been identified and is in connection with the boat recently salvaged off the coast of Los Negros.

The bloated body is of an adult male of Mira, Musau origins in New Ireland, a teacher married to a local from Sapon in the Lele mahdi Bupi Chupeu LLG he was only wearing blue shorts intact with his underwear when discovered, the co**se had no hints of decomposition or corruption from marine scavengers such as bird and fishes pointing out the possibility of a very recent incident the previous day or the earliest around two to three days old with very obvious signs of drowning, from this rational assumptions facts are still sketchy with official updates developing as police investigation is underway to establish the back story behind this gruesome catch.
