What is the biggest challenge with shooting ice cream in PNG? It melts faster than our fortnightly runs out.

We were tasked with creating promotional material for the Great Gala Giveaway - Come up with a concept, a campaign plan, execute production, post production, roll out online - all inside 2 weeks.

So us pigeons said hold our bilum and got cracking in our nest. The client had a clear target demographic - young Papua New Guineans as this was a tech giveaway. Most people would obviously think of putting a young protagonist that the target demographic connects with. Now Ice cream does not have an age based demographic. It is consumed by age group of 1-death!

So, Pidgin challenged the notion of the obvious and introduced a tech savvy bubu as our protagonist. And there could be no one better to play that protagonist than Markham Galut who brought the character to life with his Oscar worthy acting chops.

Our next challenge was the weather. It was raining for 13 days of the 2 weeks we were given to do this project. We rushed to Sogeri on an overcast morning praying the rain gods would cooperate and it seemed like luck was in our favour that day. Now for the final challenge. The melting ice cream!

Our eskies were not fool proof as the ice creams we brought with us from our studios had lost their shape. So it was time to improvise on the hero shot of Markham eating ice cream. Multiple runs between the stores and shooting location with an ice cream that looks perfect and the take that nails the timing of the camera movement and the actor taking a bite 😮‍💨

This is not to mention another day where the actors were shot on green screen in our studio. Adobe’s new updates of course making masking much easier, we also needed to use our AI filmmaking tools to create shots that we could not capture during production.

All in all the ad was ready and it delivered. Over 400,000 unique views, 5,000+ reactions and 1 million impressions on Facebook within 1 week of going live.

All done on a tight budget!

Episode 4 of Kalsa Blo Mi was the hardest hitting of them all. Shot on location at Ili in East New Britain, the documentary explores How far one should go to protect and preserve their culture? Is cultural and spiritual knowledge one of the most valuable resources for a community and must be treated with the respect it deserves?

Set in the context of a tension between the past, the present and the future, this episode reveals why a community fiercely guards its ceremonies, rituals, masks and other symbolic representations. The Fire Dance, the climax of a week-long ceremony takes the audience on a journey of a boy becoming man. Also captured is the Fertility Dance, performed once every 5 years.

Narrated by Nabieu Lansana, it features the Chief of the Qaqet Stewardship Council Dr. Nicholas Leo and other prominent members of the Qaqet people.

Not every project is plug-and-play…

Some come with layers. Real layers.

From concept to talent pool, production plans to unseen issues on-ground — this one had it all. Talent schedules to juggle, last-minute dropouts, quick turnaround, and the kind of problem-solving you can’t plan for.

Chasing that perfect hour of light just to capture the kundu hitting on the hill…
Young faces in full bilas, culture in motion, every frame needing to feel just right.

Then comes the back-and-forth _ framing, continuity, consistency… again and again.
One minute it’s sunshine, next minute rain rolls in like em papa blo ples

Long days. Early starts. Late finishes.
Multiple shoot days just to get that one shot.

And in between all that? Communication flying in every direction, decisions being made on the spot, and a crew that just makes it happen — no matter what.

Because that’s production. Real production.

And yes… all for a 2 and a half minute video.

Chaos. Coordination. Creativity.

3 steps taken to make this dynamic TVC 📺

Shooting from dawn to dusk, finding those never seen before locations and bringing a dynamic story to life - from the rugged hills of Sogeri to bustling offices, vibrant restaurants, cascading waterfalls, glittering city lights and cozy homes we found them all.

The client thought bold - one request they had was to make sure the ad communicates that our Visa Card empowers our customers in such a way that they can travel the world.

Team Pidgin said hold my kambang 💪🏽🪶

Pulled out our green screen, set it up in our studio and brought New York to POM. From script to screen, we make it happen, it took a village (Team Pidgin) to make the vision come alive 🎥🌴🏔️🌊✨

How do you plan a shoot when your talent have full-time jobs, school days, and life happening all at once? 🤔

These are not just talent, these are real people who bring authentic vibes to the set.

That was the reality behind rolling out BSP Life Insurance’s latest product – the Wantok Sumatin Insurance… and trust us, it was a ride. 🎬

From early morning starts to late-night wrap ups, our team worked through constant communication trails — one message to the next, one call to another — just to make sure everyone was in the right place, at the right time, with the right energy for each scene. Every facial expression, every mood, every frame had to match the story we were trying to tell.

And let’s not forget the fun part… working with kids! 😄
Different personalities, bursts of energy, curious questions, and those genuine moments you simply can’t script. It’s always a challenge, but also one of the most rewarding parts of storytelling.

There were reshoots, reframing, and those “let’s just do one more take” moments to get the shot just right. But that’s the beauty of production — pushing for quality and having talent who are patient, flexible, and willing to work with us until we nail the vision.

A massive shoutout to the amazing family who brought the story to life, and to the many brains, hands, and muscles behind the scenes who made this project possible. From production planning to the final frame — this was a true team effort.

We’re proud that Pidgin Productions was trusted to bring this campaign to life. Big thanks to BSP Life Insurance for believing in the craft and allowing us to tell this story.

Now… keep an eye out for more of Pidgin's production tales 👀✨
