KUMUL Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL) is shaping the next 50 years of Papua New Guinea’s energy landscape.

“We are not just participants in the petroleum industry we are the custodians of the nation’s resources.

” With these words, Acting Managing Director of KPHL Dr. Luke Liria had set the tone for a bold vision for Papua New Guinea’s energy future at the 2025 Petroleum and Energy Conference.

As PNG celebrates 50 years of independence, Dr. Liria emphasized that today’s energy decisions will shape the next half-century, ensuring that petroleum development drives not only economic growth but also renewable energy, rural electricity and nation-building.

“Every kina earned from non-renewable resources must prepare PNG for a sustainable energy and secure future,” he said.

KPHL has already delivered 50 gas-fired power stations replacing diesel generators, developed standard gas reserves and invested in health and training infrastructure across the country.

Also, there is a regional team based in Singapore to ensure that PNG’s energy resources are competitively positioned in the global market.

“While petroleum remains central, our long-term vision embraces energy in its fullest form especially renewable energy,” Dr. Liria added.

KPHL's approach signals a new era for PNG, where responsible management of natural resources drives both national development and sustainability for generations to come.
