ATTACK ON JIWAKA POLICE – 7 JANUARY 2026

Serious concern has been raised following an attack on members of the Jiwaka Police Quick Response Force (QRF) that occurred on 7th January 2026 at Minj Rot B**g.
According to reports, the incident followed the arrest of a driver for operating an unregistered motor vehicle at a police roadblock. The driver, identified as Aaron Mond, was later released on K2,000 police bail on four charges.

It is alleged that after his release, the suspect mobilised members of the Konumbuka TauKanem tribe and launched an attack on police officers and a police vehicle. Such actions are unacceptable and constitute a serious offence against law enforcement officers who were carrying out their lawful duties.

There is growing public concern regarding the silence of the Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Jiwaka, following this incident. The public seeks clarity on whether the PPC is fully aware of the situation and what steps are being taken to address the attack and ensure justice is served.

This statement calls upon:
Community leaders and elders to take responsibility and restore calm
The suspect and all those involved to surrender themselves to police immediately
Relevant authorities to act impartially and uphold the rule of law
Attacks on police officers threaten peace, security, and the authority of the state. Those responsible must be held accountable through lawful processes.

We urge cooperation, restraint, and respect for the law to allow this matter to be resolved peacefully.
