SANDAUN TOURISM MODEL | BUILT ON STRONG FOUNDATIONS

The Sandaun Tourism Model is anchored on four key foundational documents that set the structure, authority, and pathway for tourism development across the Province:

• West Sepik Destination Authority Act 2021 – establishing the institution to lead tourism
• West Sepik Destination (Regulated Tourism Activities) Regulation 2022 – setting the rules and standards
• Sandaun Destination Strategic Plan 2027–2032 – providing the five-year roadmap for growth
• West Sepik Provincial Tourism Policy 2027–2037 – guiding long-term vision and development

Together, these documents form a complete tourism system, from governance and regulation to planning and implementation.

This is what makes the Sandaun Tourism Model different.
It is structured. It is coordinated. It is ready.

Sandaun is open for tourism, backed by provincial law.

The West Sepik Destination Authority, or WSDA, was established under the West Sepik Destination Authority Act 2021 as the lead provincial body to guide, regulate, and support tourism development in our province. Tourism activities are also regulated through the West Sepik Destination (Regulated Activities) Regulation 2022, providing a clear framework for oversight and responsible growth.

This is a major milestone for West Sepik. It means tourism is no longer just an idea; it now has a proper legal and institutional foundation to drive planning, licensing, standards, investment, accountability, and sustainable development.

WSDA is here to help build a tourism future that respects our culture, protects our environment, creates jobs, and delivers real benefits for our people.

Strong law. Strong direction. Stronger tourism future for Sandaun.

SANDAUN'S FIRST PROVINCIAL TOURISM POLICY, 2027-2037, TO BE LAUNCHED.

Sandaun Province is proud to introduce the West Sepik Provincial Tourism Policy 2027–2037, a major milestone that sets a clear direction for the future of tourism in our province.

This is the first Provincial Tourism Policy for Sandaun, and it is closely aligned with the PNG National Tourism Policy 2025–2045, ensuring that our efforts are not only locally driven but nationally connected.

This policy is not just about promotion. It is about building strong foundations for tourism through:

Clear policy direction
Effective regulation and standards
Practical planning and coordination
Real opportunities for our people

It reflects our commitment to develop a tourism sector that is inclusive, sustainable, culturally respectful, and economically beneficial to our communities across the province.

Sandaun is rich in culture, history, nature, and untapped potential. Through this policy, we are taking a practical step forward to turn that potential into real growth and opportunity.
