MORO GULF TSUNAMI AND EARTHQUAKE!
On August 17, 1976 the strongest and most devastating tsunami was recorded in the Philippines at the Moro Gulf, Mindanao island. An earthquake took place around 12:11 AM with the epicenter located near the town of Lebak in Sultan Kudarat, and with the tremendous magnitude of 8.0. It rocked the cities and settlements situated along the Mindanao coastline, most notably in Cotabato, and even reached parts of Visayas.
Five minutes after the tremor, waves as high as 9 meters crashed into the Moro Gulf.
The death toll of the Moro Gulf earthquake was estimated around 8,000 dead including the missing and unidentified.
The Moro Gulf Earthquake is also called the Midnight Killer.
