July 7, 2025 - Philippine Normal University Visayas (PNUV) took a bold step toward advancing educational practices as they recently hosted a forum on Global Innovation in Teacher Education with a keynote speaker, bringing together educators, students, and student leaders to explore one of the many strategies for transforming teacher education.
Dr. Adrian Rodgers, the guest speaker of the event, whose background includes his affiliation with the Direct US-Indonesian Teacher Education Consortium (USINTEC), led an interactive session, showcasing a teaching strategy known as tableaux. Through modeling, participant practice, and discussion, he guided students on how this strategy could enhance student engagement and deepen learning.
The activity encouraged participants to experience the strategy “in role” as students, then step “out of role” to reflect on its effectiveness from a teacher’s perspective, a strategy encouraging educators to reflect deeply on their teaching practices. Later on, he introduced another creative writing strategy that encouraged self-expression through listing 20 words as a starting point for crafting poems like haikus.
Dr. Rodgers expressed his appreciation for the presence and active participation of both faculty and students, offering words of encouragement. "Congratulations on your choice of the teaching profession. You will live a full, happy, and completed life, and make a powerful impact in your community,” he said.
Head of Student Affairs and Services Unit (SASU), Dr. Richelle A. Delmo, set the tone for the event as she emphasized its value in shaping the students' future careers. Meanwhile, the faculty member, Ms. Mel E. Bachoco, introduced the resource speaker, Dr. Adrian Rodgers.
As the event drew to a close, an inspiring note from Hon. Jhan Carlo Sela, Vice President for Internal Affairs, highlighted the event’s impact. The forum concluded with a sense of purpose for the PNUV community. As the National Center for Teacher Education, PNUV reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing globally aware, reflective, and innovative educators.
