With pens in hand, and a shared determination to improve, the young journalists immersed themselves in an intensive journalism training.

The training was spearheaded by the school's Language teachers alongside ANHS alumna, Sheila Marie Gumaru and her senior colleagues from The Torch PNU NL Publication, who volunteered their time and expertise to mentor the aspiring campus writers.

Through interactive lectures, writing drills, critiquing sessions, and one-on-one coaching, participants refined their skills in various journalism categories while gaining practical insights from experienced writers and editors.

School Principal Dr. Herros W. Torres commended the students for their eagerness to grow and for their commitment to continuously developing their journalistic abilities.

"I commend our student journalists for their commitment to honing their journalistic skills. Journalism has one of the highest level of competence, and I encourage you to continue striving for excellence," he said.

He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Language teachers for their unwavering guidance and to the volunteer trainers from The Torch PNU NL Publication for generously sharing their knowledge and experiences.

Four houses set for battle of OlympianHS 2026

The school buzzed with cheers as it officially opened its Intramurals 2026, bringing together students, teachers, SPTA officers, and field study student-teachers from Philippine Normal University–North Luzon (PNU-NL) for the annual celebration of sports and unity.

The opening program began with an opening salvo of the PNU-NL field study student-teachers, followed by a cultural exhibition from the Tribu Gaddang Arnis Team, highlighting the rich heritage of Isabela.

Sports Coordinator, Julie Ann Ricardo welcomed the participants and formally opened the event. The four Subject heads, Sir Ariel Macadangdang for Raging Zeus, Sir Joone Ceasar Manayan, representing Sir Samuel Memita, for Fiery Hades, Sir Kelvin Valencia for Wrathful Poseidon, and Ma'am Melanie Corpuz for Vengeful Hera, presented their teams.

Our CAVRAA qualifiers, Evan Jay Balauag, Anthony Fronton, and Khengy Estrada lighted our OlympianHS Flame. q

School Principal Dr. Herros Torres formally declared the opening of the Intramurals and reminded everyone that the event is more than just winning games.

"It is a celebration of respect—paggalang sa isa't isa, cooperation, resilience, teamwork, and most especially, discipline," he also said.

Students plant Hope Through Community Tree-Planting drive

Grade 12 HUMSS, together with barangay officials, participated in the Weekend's "Tanim ng Pag-asa" tree-planting activity as part of a community environmental initiative.

The activity was conducted in Barangays Cumu, Consular, Fugaru, Ingud Sur, and Ingud Norte, where students and local officials planted tree seedlings in designated areas.

The tree-planting activity formed part of the students' Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship (CESC) program, allowing them to work with local government officials in a community-based environmental project.

CHECKMATE

Every morning, hundreds of students walk through the gates of Angadanan National High School carrying backpacks filled with notebooks, dreams, and hopes for a better future.

Today, however, those bags are opened not because students are under suspicion, but because their safety matters.

The recent school shooting incident in Tacloban City served as a painful reminder that violence can happen in places we once considered the safest. Because schools are meant to be sanctuaries of learning, not places of fear.

When tragedy strikes one school, every school is reminded of its responsibility to protect the lives entrusted to its care.

At ANHS bag inspections have become part of the morning routine. Some may see them inconvenient or unnecessary, but they represent something far greater than a simple security check... They are a quiet promise that every reasonable step is being taken to prevent harm before it happens.

Yet safety is not the sole responsibility of security guards or school administrators. It begins at home when parents check what their children bring to school. It continues with learners who choose responsibility over recklessness and with teachers who remain observant and caring. Creating a safe campus is a shared commitment.

The implementation of Division Memorandum No. 363, s. 2025 is more than compliance with policy. It is a declaration that protecting lives comes before everything else. Education can only flourish where learners feel secure enough to focus on their lessons instead of their fears.

No one wants schools to become places guarded by anxiety. Yet ignoring dangers that may happen is far more costly than taking preventive measures. The memorandum reminds us, "Prevention is our strongest defense." Those words are not meant to frighten us. They are meant to guide us.

The goal is not to make students feel watched. It is to make them feel protected. Every bag checked is another opportunity to prevent tragedy. Every act of vigilance is an act of care.

In the end, the greatest victory is not catching a threat. It is ensuring that none ever reaches our classrooms. That is CHECKMATE.

HAPPENING NOWII Students from Angadanan West District, led by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer, Sir Joel Matias, are currently participating in the "Bandages & Bravery: A Junior Lifesaver's Training" at the Angadanan National High School Gymnasium.

The hands-on training is conducted through the support of our Municipal Mayor, Hon. Joelle Matthea S. Panganiban.

The said training equips learners with essential emergency response skills in preparation for the RescueLympics 2026 on July 17.

More than a competition, the RescueLympics aims to develop youth volunteers who are equipped with practical skills, teamwork, and a strong sense of community service, proving that today's training could help save lives tomorrow.
