LITERARY: Gulung sulung!

“Pamagbayu’y masanting!”
Oneng ika namung bala kung makananu meng intindyan ada pin.

Enaman gana-gana makasabe king pamagbakle:
King pemilit, king mabilis, ampo king e planadung masaleseng pamagbayu.

Wa, akakit mi ing dapat baywan.
Ken mung kasake mu, ing asuk emuna ayagwan,
Karing luklukan a sira-sira, bakbak a pintura, ma’l a gasolinang kakanan.

Ing suporta ning “lugud” yu karing tsuper mangulangan lamang dakal,
E man mengapitna—panyali demu yatang bakal,
Kaya ring taung tutung sasakle karing tsuper, anong karakal sasabyan—ano karakal paglaban.

Pekyalaman yu la ring hari na ning dalan; ila muring dakal a pakanan, dakal a taung sosopan.
Pilit yung pasulud ing sapatus na edanaman agyung pagkasyan.

“123,123” yang perwisyu da ring tsuper kanita,
“12/31/23” yamu rin pala ing mandali karelang kabyayan dang mamita.

Misan da na katamung etad ding jeep karing pangarap tamu, istu mu na ila naman kanyan ing dinan tamung dalan.

“Beep, beep, beep,” ang sabi ng diyip

Ako ay may lobo
Lumipad sa langit
Pumara sa kanto
Bakit masa ang ginigipit?

Ako ay may alaga
Asong mataba
Kabuhaya’y pinaslang ng mga buwaya
Sa mga tsuper ang daplis ng bala

“Beep, beep, beep,”
Ang sabi ng diyip
Paskong malamig; sa Bagong Taon ang usig
Kalam ng tiyan ang tinig

Bubuka ang bulaklak
Papasok ang reyna
Modernisasyo’y wag itulak
Kung kadena lang sa masa ang sistema

Ako ay tutula
Sa terminal ang pila’y mahaba
Ako ay uupo
Buwagin ang trono ng mga trapo

Nanay, tatay, gusto kong tinapay
Ruta sa Mendiola, masusulyapan pa ba?
Ate, kuya, gusto kong kape
May pagkain pa ba tayo sa Media Noche?

HAU student leaders hold protest; decry martial law atrocities, historical distortion

Student protesters chanted “Never Again, Never Forget!” in front of Holy Angel University on Saturday, September 23, to commemorate the 51st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law through candle lighting.

The protest was staged by Tindig Holy Angel University (HAU), some officers of the University Student Council (USC) and School of Arts and Sciences – College Student Council (SAS-CSC), Panday Sining – Pampanga, and few alumni of HAU.

According to the protesters, they wore black to symbolize the period of dictatorship as one of the darkest times in the Philippine history.

Among their callings include “No to mandatory ROTC” and “No to red-tagging.”

While USC School of Education Senator Patricia Ysabel Torres emphasized the whitewashing of the Marcos family by the current administration.

“…isa itong hakbang ng rehimeng Marcos Jr. para baguhin ang kasaysayan at makalimutan ang kanilang mga kasalanan noong panahon ng batas militar [referring to the Department of Education’s recent memo],” said Torres.

Last September 11, the Department of Education Bureau of Curriculum confirmed a memo to remove ‘Marcos’ in ‘Diktaduryang Marcos’ in the new curriculum.

This week, the USC, SAS-CSC, the School of Business and Accountancy – College Student Council (SBA-SAS), and The Angelite have launched online postings debunking myths of the dictatorship.

While similar activity was conducted by several student organizations in Pampanga High School last Thursday, calling for the youth to embrace the role as “custodians of our nation’s democratic values.”

As of now, the Malacañang Palace is yet to issue a statement as the country recalled the atrocities of the military rule of the elder Marcos.

Students express concern, felt mislead on red-tagging forum

Anti-cybercrime seminar led by the Philipine National Police – Regional Office 03 turns into a discussion of redtagging legal activists and progressive organizations as part of the communist rebels yesterday, September 22 at Saint Joseph Academic Hall.

The event, which was entitled “Seminar on Cybercrime & Anti-Drugs Measures Laws,” was organized by the university in collaboration with the College of Criminal Justice Education and Forensics, Office of the Student Affairs, and the Philippine National Police Region III.

Attendees were members of student organizations, publications, and council, who expressed dismay due to diverted orientation on deceptive recruitment, and discouragement to join rallies and progressive organizations.

“Yung simula ng seminar was a casual discussion, however it became strange to me nung natapos na yung anti drug abuse. The conversation became very conflicting nung sudden discussion na on anti-progressives. Very misleading,” said one student journalist.

Sensitive topics, including the alleged recruitment of youth leaders to the Communist Party of the Philippines, New People’s Army, and National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), were discussed in front of freshmen attendees.

“Kung ano man yung nakaugalian ninyo na against the government, hindi naman sagot yung pagpoprotesta natin, o yung pagsama natin sa mga kaliwang grupo…ang magiging solusyon diyan [ay] yung mga sarili niyo,” said Police Captain Randy N. Pascasio of Regional Mobile Force Batallion 3, one of the speakers.

Gemma C. Labsan, a high school teacher, was introduced to state her testimony as a parent on the alleged recruitment of her child to Anakbayan – University of the Philippines Diliman, an organization she later on red-tagged.

Meanwhile, the University Student Council Secretary-General Emmanuel Manalastas has expressed his frustration over the seminar.

“Nakakabahala at nakakagalit na ang seminar na dapat para sa ikabubuti at kaligtasan ng mga dumalo ay nagdala ng takot at pangamba dahil sa mga naging diskusyon at pagbabanta ng mga kapulisan,” said Manalastas.

He also added that there is nothing wrong with joining rallies and becoming an activist, what is wrong is the suppression of youth and students to participate progressively in a democratic country.

Flyers and pamphlets containing the discussion were also distributed to the audience during the seminar.
