The Access Point

The Access Point The Official Student Publication of the School of Computing (SoC) at Holy Angel University. Joseph Esquivel. We aim to be the first Premiere I.T.

In line with sustaining the needs of Holy Angel University for the growth of its IT students, the College of Information and Communications Technology (CICT) was formed in October 2005 under the deanship of Mr. Courses such as Associate in Computer Technology and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) then were transferred to handle by the ICT College.

Likewise, spearheaded by the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) headed by Dean Francisco Adviento who coordinated with Mr. Esquivel for the betterment of the newly formed college, both the College Student Council and College Official Publication were established in 2006, thus gaining CICTโ€™s full independence. The NEXUS as the official paper of the CAS administered the Editorial Examination which resulted to only two (2) IT students who successfully passed the exam - an arisen dilemma which became the main reason why the college failed to produce any issue immediately. Moreover, even before the year 2007, there are only five (5) writers of the publication of the CICT who took the initiative to look for writers via posted announcement and administered Reportorial Examination for potential students. Finally, more than ten (10) writers, editors and other staffers helped together and did their best in producing the first ever issue which was released on March 05, 2007. Before the said release of the newspaper, the finalization for its official name was done by means of a selection process through voting. During that time, proposed names were GIGAhertz, Gateway, Access Point and digITal - all of which got from IT related terms but the second to the last one bagged the most number of votes from the writers. Access Point as described is a point which in fact synonymous with gateway (more on networking) whereby access to any connection could be obtained and more technically, access points act as a central transmitter and receiver of WLAN radio signals. Similarly as a newspaper, The Access Point is where any IT student of Holy Angel University could get reliable news and other information pertaining to the College of Information and Communications Technology. The following are the student writers of the first Editorial Board to manage The Access Point during that time: Adrian Lee Magcalas (Editor-in-chief), Harold Garcia (Associate Editor), Angus Miranda (Managing Editor), Camachille Imbag (News Editor), Gerald Aguilar (News Editor), Jacky Dimaunahan (Feature Editor), Frances Velasquez (Staff writer), Liann Pineda (Staff writer), Erika Louise Pine (Staff writer), Jennifer Maglaque (Staff writer), Cristina Ramoso (Cartoonist), Lon Relorcaza (Cartoonist) and Joseph Lao Peterson (Photo Journalist). Today, the Access Point has continually evolved into a magazine wherein layouts where altered to create a more effective way for the students to read it page by page. Various activities were put into motion- team building and the training for new Layout Artists. magazine of the Holy Angel University. And to fulfill our vision, the Access Point will continue to provide quality I.T.-related articles to contribute to the knowledge of the students as well as show them what the real I.T. world is beyond what they see and what they know.

As Womenโ€™s Month comes to a close, we take a moment to look back and celebrate the stories, strength, and brilliance that women continue to bring into every space they lead.

We are honored to celebrate a milestone in leadership, as this publication year, we proudly highlight the all-women Editors-in-Chief of the HAU Press Club. Across every publication, these leaders guide our campus journalism, uphold journalistic integrity, and prove that the future of leadership is undeniably female.

To the women who have led our publications, thank you for your vision, strength, and commitment to serve the truth. Your voices inspire, empower, and pave the way for generations to come.
Hereโ€™s to women who lead, who write, and who shape the stories of tomorrow.

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž | All PUJs plying city routes in Angeles City are not participating in the transport strike planned for March 26-27, according to President Augusto Bagtas of PASADA, as of 3:10 PM on March 25. This statement was released by the Angeles City Information Office page.

As of writing, Angeles City transport workers have not participated in the planned nationwide transport strike organized by PISTON, a nationwide federation of public transport workers in the Philippines, protesting the deregulated oil price hike amid the conflict in West Asia between US-Israel and Iran.

This continues amid the nationwide transport strike, joined in by jeepney drivers and conductors transiting in between San Fernando and Angeles.

With that, the city government of San Fernando has launched a โ€œlibreng sakayโ€ program for commuters with specific pick-up and final drop-off points from 6:30 AM onwards. Waiting time for commuters has been reported to reach an hour before being able to ride on government vehicles.

The Angeles City government has cancelled its planned โ€œlibreng sakayโ€ program in routes going to Dau, Mabalacat, Magalang, and Porac as jeepney drivers and conductors in those areas did not participate in the strike. The city government of Angeles and Holy Angel University have not declared suspensions for work and classes today.

| Today, March 13, concerns have been raised among Angelites as phishing emails are spreading in their Outlook using alleged or impersonated names such as โ€œHarold Diazโ€ and โ€œChang Hyun Parkโ€, falsely claiming that recipients have an outstanding tuition balance of 12,000 pesos or 15,000, and are demanding to settle their remaining balance.

The emails also state, โ€œFurthermore, if your debt is not settled before 16/03/2026, we will have to forward your file to our litigation department,โ€ threatening students with legal action if they do not pay urgently via GCash. The senders also request proof of payment and promise โ€œresults within 2 to 3 daysโ€ once the balance is settled. They also encourage financially struggling students to apply for financial assistance to pay for the required amount.

Emails such as this one are called a phishing scam. It is a deceptive digital tactic where someone impersonates a trusted individual or institution, just like the use of HAU Finance in the emai, to deceive the receiver into surrendering money. It uses a psychological hook or fear-mongering to persuade and push the victims to follow their demands. Scams like this usually use punycode or fake emailโ€” โ€œ[email protected]โ€ in this case.

Beware of falling into phishing scams. To verify your remaining balance, you can check the online payment center at the HAU Campus portal.

Keep safe and informed, Foxes!

๐—Ÿ๐—ข๐—ข๐—ž | Aninaw: Galaw ng Guniguni celebrates EMC 4th Years Animation Projects

From 12 PM until 5 PM, at PGN Auditorium, students from the BS Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (BS EMC) program were invited for a viewing of the Animation Production and Capstone Project animations by 4th Year seniors. This event was organized with the Multimedia Aficionados for Interested Artists (MAFIA).

Freshmen, Sophmores, and Juniors, and the graduating Seniors gathered throughout the event, showcasing the works of the graduating students, giving the lower years a powerful look into the future ahead of them. Many Foxes even outside of the BS EMC program joined as their friends and peers showcased their works. As part of the projects were also advocacies alongside numerous non-profit organizations (NGOs), and stories that spoke to the issues relevant not only to the campus community, but to our wider local communities as well.
