Exposing an impacted canine is a collaborative procedure between an oral surgeon and an orthodontist that helps guide a trapped canine tooth into its proper position instead of removing it. The process begins with braces or aligners to create enough space, followed by a minor surgery to expose the hidden tooth. A small orthodontic bracket and gold chain are then attached to the tooth, allowing the orthodontist to apply gentle forces over several months to move the canine into alignment. This treatment helps protect neighboring teeth, reduces the risk of cyst formation, and preserves the function and appearance of the natural canine tooth.
