GenteelHome is set to unveil Bigkis, a landmark furniture collection debuting at Maison&Objet Paris 2025, celebrating Southeast Asian creativity and Filipino craftsmanship on the global stage.
Named after the Filipino word for โtiesโ or โbonds,โ Bigkis highlights how design connects people, places, and ideas through material, process, and shared narratives. The collection brings together five acclaimed Southeast Asian designersโEggarat Wongcharit (Thailand), Keat Ong (Singapore), Lai Siew Hong (Malaysia), Kezia Karin (Indonesia), and Ivy Almario (Philippines)โworking in collaboration with Genteelhomeโs master Filipino artisans.
โAt its heart, Bigkis is about creating spaces that embody the warmth and togetherness of every Filipino home,โ said Katrina Blanca de Leon, Genteelhome Founder. โIt celebrates family, shared stories, and bondsโwhile also showcasing Southeast Asiaโs creative voice as rich, diverse, and worth listening to.โ
The collection transforms wood, fiber, metal, and glass into carriers of cultural meaning, shaped by traditions refined over generations. Each designer contributes a unique perspective:
Eggarat Wongcharit blends Thai and Filipino materials such as nipa thatch and tinalak for globally adaptable pieces.
Keat Ong fuses Eastern craftsmanship with Western campaign furniture, championing sustainability and transformable design.
Lai Siew Hong explores togetherness through woven rope and timber interlocks.
Kezia Karin reinterprets Indonesian jewelry motifs into furniture accents rich with cultural detail.
Ivy Almario creates functional art rooted in Filipino identity with a pop-art sensibility.
The Genteel Home booth, designed by Milan-based Filipino architect Michael Vincent Uy, will echo the richness of the Philippine archipelago through flowing walls that unify diverse Southeast Asian voices in one harmonious space.
More than a furniture line, Bigkis is a statement of Southeast Asian representationโan invitation to experience the regionโs craftsmanship and storytelling in one collection.
