“I’ve shared tables with many different people in my life, but this table, not a fancy one but shared with family in Uma, made me feel truly content, loved, and blessed. “
Naglilinis ako ng photos sa phone and I saw this picture from our vacation in Iloilo.
Iloilo is my parents’ hometown. 10 years akong di nakabalik, I studied there for 6 years and then moved back to Manila after.
The first thing we did when we arrived in Iloilo was to drive to my father’s hometown. The plan was to surprise them because nobody knew we were coming. I wasn’t expecting anything, but to my surprise, they welcomed us with big warm hugs, and the community pastor prayed with us. It touched my heart and it truly felt like home. ❤️
When we were about to leave, one of my Ante (Tita) asked me:
“Mabalik pa kamo di? Diya kamo mag-igma, ma daha ako.”
(“Babalik pa kayo dito? Dito kayo kumain, magluluto ako.”)
Even though our schedule was fully packed, I said yes. Two days later, we returned. Hindi lang iisang bahay ang nagluto, tatlong bahay ang nagluto for this special lunch 🥹
They even said, “Pasensiya amo lang ni daha namon.”
(“Pasensiya ito lang yung luto namin.”)
But little did they know, that simple gesture touched my heart more than anything. ✨
I’ve shared tables with many different people in my life, but this table, not a fancy one but shared with family in Uma, made me feel truly content, loved, and blessed.
It felt so warm na kapag na aalala ko, naiiyak ako.
Out of all the food I’ve tasted in Iloilo, this one will always be the best. 🫶
Sobrang bitin ng bakasyon na to, and honestly, I regret booking a return ticket so soon. 🥲
I also realized na sometimes, the smallest gestures leave the biggest imprint on our hearts. And a home is not a place, it’s the people who make you feel you belong.
