CPNP MARBIL TO COPS: PREVENT VIOLENCE, STAY NEUTRAL
In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.โs call for clean and credible elections, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil on Monday reminded all police personnel to remain politically neutral and focused on their primary duty of ensuring peace and order ahead of the May 12 polls.
โThe core mission of the PNP during elections is twofold: to ensure public safety and maintain political neutrality. We are not here to serve political interestsโwe are here to serve the Filipino people and protect democracy,โ Gen. Marbil said.
The top cop issued the directive as political activities begin to intensify across the country, and amid growing concerns from the public over alleged instances of partisanship among some uniformed personnel. He emphasized that any police officer found engaging in partisan political activities will face swift administrative and disciplinary action, which may include dismissal from the service.
โLet me be clear: the PNP will not tolerate any form of political partisanship within its ranks. The uniform we wear represents public serviceโnot any political campaign or candidacy,โ Gen. Marbil stressed.
He also called on all unit commanders and regional directors to actively monitor their personnel and report any indication of political involvement. โOur accountability as officers does not end with deployment. We are expected to uphold the non-partisan mandate of the PNP at all times,โ he said.
โOur integrity as an institution depends on our collective ability to remain above politics. We must never allow personal or class ties to compromise our impartiality,โ he added.
Gen. Marbil reiterated that the role of the police during elections goes beyond maintaining peaceโit is to help guarantee that every Filipino can cast their vote freely and without fear.
โOur communities rely on us to make sure their voices are heard in a safe and secure environment. That is our solemn duty,โ he said.
The PNP assures the public that it will remain a steadfast guardian of democracy, committed to delivering a peaceful, orderly, and honest electoral process.
