๐๐„๐–๐’ ๐”๐๐ƒ๐€๐“๐„: UA-TLMC Holds Block Screening of Maaram, Las Islas Visayas

On May 28, 2026, students from different colleges of the University of Antique โ€“ Tario-Lim Memorial Campus gathered at the Recreational and Fitness Center to witness the block screening of Maaram, Las Islas Visayas.

Maaram, Las Islas Visayas is the initiative of Senator Loren Legarda through the National Commission for Culture and Arts that focuses on documenting the intangible cultural heritage of Visayas.

This activity united students, faculty members, guest, visitors and public officials across the province with one common goalโ€”to promote and preserve cultural heritage.

The event commenced with the welcome remarks delivered by Officer In-Charge (OIC) as Vice President for Administration and Finance on behalf of the University President Dr. Godelyn G. Hisole.

"Culture is what binds us as a people... This film documentary more than present traditions and practices from selected provinces in the Visayas, it brings life into stories that deserves to be remembered," and "We cannot give what we do not know, we cannot defend what failed to value," stressed by Dr. Crespo.

Moreover, the event continued with the presentation of Kari, a dance research project by one of the CTE instructors and Area Head of Physical Education, Prof. Joanna Roan C. Villora. This was followed by the proper screening of the different documentaries across the island of Visayas.

The three documentaries featured were Handom Ko โ€“ The Rondalla Tradition in Antique; Sal de Visayas โ€“ The Asin Tibuok Tradition; and Usahay โ€“ The Guitar-Making Tradition in Lapu-Lapu City.

These documentaries showcased the unique talents and rich culture of the Visayas. It also highlighted the importance of preserving traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Overall, the activity served as an avenue for students, faculty members, and public officials to immerse themselves in the world of cultural preservation and take a step toward greater cultural awareness.

An alumna of the College of Teacher Education (CTE), Christine Faith Obrigoso Heraldo, who achieved a historic feat by securing the 9th spot in this yearโ€™s Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (Secondary Level) held in March 2026, was recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region VI during the 5th Regional Quality Awards held on May 21 in Iloilo City.

The CHED Region VI Regional Quality Awards are annual honors bestowed by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office VI. These awards celebrate the outstanding achievements and best practices of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Western Visayas in the areas of instruction, research, community extension, and student affairs.

This achievement is a testament that the College of Teacher Education molds future educators not only to shine within the four walls of the classroom but also beyond them.

โ€œHonestly, I feel very grateful and blessed. I never expected nga makaabot ako sini, especially on the regional stage. It still feels surreal for me, daw mahibi ako, but Iโ€™m very thankful to God, my family, teachers, friends, and everyone nga nagsuporta sa akon throughout this journey,โ€ Heraldo said.

Her journey was not easy. It required courage, determination, perseverance, and the unwavering support of her loved ones.

โ€œWhat inspired me the most was my dream of becoming a teacher and making my family proud. I was also inspired by the people around me, especially those who achieved their goals through hard work and faith,โ€ she added.

Heraldoโ€™s triumph reminds us that as long as we do not give up and continue to seek Godโ€™s guidance, everything is possible.

โ€œTo my fellow students, especially the CTE students, never underestimate yourself. Believe in yourself, work hard, pray, and trust Godโ€™s timing. Your current situation does not define your future. Someday, all your sacrifices will be worth it,โ€ she stressed.

Accompanying her were the Collegeโ€™s supportive Associate Dean, Dr. Aldrex A. Barrientos, and Ma'am Millie Flor Adam, Area Head of BSED Science, who expressed their pride in Heraldoโ€™s achievement and the honor she brought to the College.

โ€œI am happy and proud to have a LEPT topnotcher from CTE and BSED Science. Our Associate Dean, Dr. Aldrex A. Barrientos, and I were there to accompany Ms. Christine Faith Heraldo as she received her award as one of the topnotchers among the CHED scholarship grantees. I hope and pray to return in the coming years to witness more CTE graduates receive the same, if not greater, recognition from CHED Region VI,โ€ said Ma'am Adam.

This shared milestone reflects the unwavering support and collaborative efforts of both students and faculty members in producing quality educators committed to uplifting lives and building sustainable and resilient communities.
