Being part of the LEAP Program of Mayors for Good Governance (M4GG) was more than just another learning experience, it was a reminder of why I chose to serve.
Sa duro kang lessons, conversations, and stories shared by fellow mayors and leaders, one thing became even clearer to me: good governance is a continuous journey. We listen. We learn. We adapt. We build partnerships. And most importantly, we make sure that what we learn translates into better service for our people.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside 20 fellow local chief executives and from inspiring leaders and mentors, including our keynote speaker, Iloilo Province Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.
But behind every lesson I take home, there is someone who continues to inspire me, my father, the late Mayor Elmer C. Untaran.
For three terms as Mayor of San Jose de Buenavista, he dedicated himself to public service and was recognized with multiple awards for leadership and good governance. Growing up and witnessing his work, I learned that leadership is not about the title we carry. It is about the trust we earn, the systems we build, and the lives we touch.
Amo ja ang isara ka akon gusto gid padayunon, ang ana nga legacy sa pag serbisyo.
I know I have big shoes to fill. But I also know that I don't have to copy his journey. My responsibility is to learn from it, build on it, and create my own chapter of service for our people.
Ang LEAP experience nagta-o kanakon kang bag-o nga paglantaw sa pagdumara nga indi kinahanglan nga ang gobyerno lang ang maghimo kang tanan. We govern better when we listen to our people, work with our communities, welcome partnerships, embrace innovation, and remain accountable.
So I return home to San Jose de Buenavista, the Heart of Antique, not only with new ideas, but with a renewed commitment:
Mas mayad nga serbisyo. Mas bukas nga panggobyerno. Mas duro nga partnership. Kag mas bahol nga impact para sa aton mga kasimanwa.
Thank you, M4GG, for giving us this space to LEAP, learn, and lead together.
Para sa aton mga pumuluyo. Para sa San Jose de Buenavista
Padayon kita.
Kruhaay, M4GG! ๐ค๐ต๐ญ
