“JUST 10 MINUTES” - BARANGAY CAPTAIN EXPLAINS EMERGENCY VEHICLE SEEN PARKED AT SIBALOM LODGING HOUSE 🚑
The Punong Barangay of Brgy. Alangan, Sibalom, Antique has explained his side after a photo of their barangay emergency vehicle parked inside a lodging house compound circulated widely on social media.
In an interview, the barangay captain said he stayed at the area for only about 10 minutes and confirmed that he personally drove the emergency vehicle.
According to him, he was on his way to attend to an important matter at the Provincial Capitol in San Jose de Buenavista when he briefly stopped at the lodging house to speak with a relative who serves as the establishment’s caretaker.
He said the stop was related to a transaction involving their lechon business located beside the lodging house, which was why the emergency vehicle was temporarily parked inside the property.
The barangay captain said he did not expect anyone to take a photo of the vehicle and upload it on social media, where it later gained widespread attention.
He also acknowledged that using the emergency vehicle in that situation was a wrong decision, but maintained that he did not commit any wrongdoing inside the lodging house and that the vehicle was not used for an improper personal purpose.
The incident, however, has raised questions among the public over the proper use of a government-owned barangay emergency vehicle, particularly when it is being used outside an actual emergency response.
Government vehicles are generally expected to be used only for official government functions and other duly authorized purposes, in accordance with applicable rules governing the use of public property.
As the photo continues to circulate online, the barangay captain’s explanation has drawn attention to the broader issue of accountability and proper use of government vehicles.
