We, the student journalists of Pampanga State University, stand with the Filipino people as we commemorate the 53rd year since Martial Law was declared. Today, September 21, 2025, we condemn not only the dictatorship of the Marcos Regime but also the corruption that continues to betray our people in the present.
Across the nation, the people rise in defiance against systemic corruption, abuse of power, and the neglect of public welfare. The governmentโs flood control projects have recently come under scrutiny after the discovery of substandard and ghost projects worth billions of pesos, allegedly benefiting some lawmakers, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials, and private contractors. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon reported that losses from these anomalous projects could reach up to the trillions of pesos, as the Senate Blue-Ribbon Committee continues its investigation.
These are funds meant to protect the people, yet the wealth is siphoned to enrich the few while the majority remain in poverty. Just as the Marcos dictatorship plundered the nation while silencing dissent, todayโs corruption steals resources meant to safeguard lives, leaving ordinary Filipinos to bear the consequences.
In the Province of Pampanga, flooding has become a persistent and devastating reality, no longer an occasional calamity but a normalized threat that submerges communities, schools, and roads. Despite billions of pesos allocated for flood control projects, defective structures, unfinished works, and misappropriated funds leave Kapampangans unprotected and at constant risk.
It is the resilience of the Kapampangan people alone that allows them to endure and rebuild, yet no community should be forced to survive at the mercy of their own perseverance while public resources meant to safeguard lives are diverted for personal gain.
As student journalists, we commit to reporting the truth, exposing injustice, and challenging corruption wherever it thrives. As youth, we refuse to stand by while our dreams, education, safety, and future are stolenโleaving us an inheritance of a nation built on greed, impunity, and betrayal.
And so, to remain silent is to betray the people we serve. We refuse to bow in complicity.
Today, September 21, as the Filipino people take to the streets to demand justice, transparency, and accountability, we stand in solidarity with the nationwide anti-corruption protests and movements. Just as the courage and collective action of the Filipino people brought an end to Martial Law decades ago, it is once again through protest, resolve, and unity that we assert our power against oppression and abuse. We denounce the rampant corruption that robs the people of their rights and defiles the foundations of our nation, enriching the few while condemning the many to suffering.
Let this serve as a warning: the power of governance does not rest in Malacaรฑang, nor in the hands of corrupt officials, senators, or contractors. It belongs to the peopleโthe very people who granted their office. It is about time they answer the masses' demand for a government that serves with integrity rather than steals with impunity. Resistance is necessary, and the fight for a just and accountable nation continues.
