Every year, thousands of Filipino families live with empty chairs at the table. Parents leave home to work abroad, chasing opportunities that their own country cannot provide. Their absence is felt in quiet mornings, missed celebrations, and children growing up with voices over the phone instead of hugs. This is the life of Overseas Filipino Workers, whose love and sacrifice stretch across borders to hold their families together.

Days are measured by messages and video calls. Birthdays are celebrated in small screens. Graduations are watched from afar. Children learn patience, and parents learn endurance. Love changes its shape, becoming gestures of care and proof of presence in the simplest acts. Remittances, calls, and prayers become threads that connect hearts even when miles separate them.

Families learn to endure and to find strength in absence. A mother comforts herself with memories of laughter. A father finds courage in the hope of returning home. Longing becomes a reminder of devotion, and distance becomes a lesson in patience.

Sacrifice may be quiet, but its impact is profound. Love endures, families survive, and hope carries them through every day apart. In the life of an OFW, absence is not the end. It is proof that love can persist beyond presence, and that family remains unbroken no matter the distance.

Ramos highlighted the broader intention behind the initiative, focusing on inclusion and service. Sa pamamagitan ng RISE, layunin naming iparamdam na hindi kayo kakaiba, na kayo ay tanggap sa komunidad, at hindi kayo nag-iisa,โ€ he said.

Throughout the event, CSC officers facilitated learning-centered games, storytelling sessions, and interactive activities designed to promote creativity, well-being, and positive values among the children. The Council also distributed essential food supplies as part of its commitment to support the communityโ€™s basic needs.

The CSC shared that it hopes to continue expanding its outreach programs, ensuring that CSUโ€“Aparri remains actively involved in uplifting nearby communities through education and service.

The recent viral claim that 500 pesos can cover a simple Noche Buena meal has sparked nationwide conversations. Many laughed, many disagreed, and many questioned how such a limited amount could satisfy a family during a holiday celebration. Yet behind the humor and debate lies a more pressing issue that affects many every day. If 500 pesos is being challenged as enough for one special night, how can it be expected to last for several days as a student's allowance with rising costs and limited spending?

This question highlights a reality that is often overlooked. For years, 500 pesos has been treated as a reliable allowance, believed to be enough to cover daily needs for multiple days. What once offered comfort now feels like a challenge. Instead of asking how far their learning can take them, students are forced to ask how long this limited budget can actually last. The costs of transportation, food, school materials, and digital needs have steadily increased, while the allowance many receive has remained unchanged.

As a result, learners have been forced to adjust their habits not for better budgeting, but for basic survival. Some choose the least expensive meals even if they are not enough to keep them energized. Others walk long distances to reduce transportation expenses. Many delay printing or other academic requirements because these costs eat their tightly measured budget. These actions reveal an important truth. The challenge is not rooted in financial carelessness. It is rooted in economic conditions that cannot be controlled by those affected. The expectation that 500 pesos can stretch across several days does not reflect the reality faced by learners. Instead of empowering them, it restricts their choices and adds unnecessary pressure.

This situation becomes even clearer when considering the recent Noche Buena debate. If adults question how 500 pesos can feed a family for a single night, it is reasonable to question how the same amount can sustain daily needs for multiple days. The comparison highlights a growing disconnect between what is assumed to be sufficient and what is truly required.

Allowance should never be treated as a fixed standard immune to the realities of daily life. It should be seen as support that reflects the rising costs and increasing demands of modern education, not as a test of how far one can stretch limited resources.

Every day has become a careful balancing act, where small choices carry big consequences and patience is tested at every turn.

Cagayan State Universityโ€“Aparri formally launched its Christmas Village 2025 on December 3, 2025, at the Admin Building Grounds, showcasing the theme โ€œPaskong Pamana: Ilaw at Ligaya ng CSUโ€“Aparri.โ€ Students, personnel, and faculty from all colleges took part in the event, featuring handcrafted village installations and traditional parols.

In this yearโ€™s Christmas Village Competition, the College of Teacher Education (CTE) took first place, followed by the Administration Office in second and the College of Information and Computing Sciences (CICS) in third, respectively. In the Parol-Making Competition, the Administration Office earned first place, while the College of Teacher Education (CTE) and the College of Business, Entrepreneurship, and Accountancy (CBEA) placed second and third, respectively.

Moreover, CTE Governor Uriel D. Ragasa, whose college earned the top spot in the village competition, shared that their victory was far from expected. He described how their team overcame doubts, budget limitations, and lack of manpower, saying that many elements of their school-themed village titled โ€œParol sa Paaralanโ€ were created spontaneously due to resource constraints. Lahat ng pagod ay nagbunga,โ€ he stated.

Furthermore, the Administration Officeโ€™s winning parol, โ€œChristmas Star โ€“ Unity in Light,โ€ impressed judges with its craftsmanship and symbolism. Made from coconut husk fibers, seeds, and other local materials, the parol reflected the teamโ€™s identityโ€”steadfast, united, and committed to serving the CSU community.

Meanwhile, the Christmas Village 2025 continues to illuminate the campus throughout the holiday season, reflecting CSUโ€“Aparriโ€™s commitment to cultural celebration, creativity, and campus-wide unity. The displays remain open for viewing, bringing joy and tradition to students and visitors alike.
