In observance of the National Womenโ€™s Month 2026, Luna National High School conducted a school-based program on March 19, highlighting the theme โ€œWE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.โ€

At the outset, the program commenced with opening remarks delivered by Jeaneth Mae T. Llantada, Head Teacher I, who underscored the importance of acknowledging womenโ€™s contributions and promoting gender equality within the community.

Following this, Marie France R. Tamaken, Nurse II, Public Health Nurse of Rural Health Unitโ€“Luna, talked on mental health, stressing the significance of psychological well-being and the creation of a supportive environment.

Subsequently, the audience was serenaded by Bernard V. Perdido and John Waleed Urbano, whose musical performance added a reflective and celebratory tone to the program.

Following this, inspirational messages were delivered by Imelda A. Burigsay, School Principal II, and Lency Hace T. Arellano, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) President, both of whom highlighted the continuing role of women in shaping inclusive and progressive communities.

In addition, tokens of appreciation were presented to female employees and HPTA officers in recognition of their dedication and invaluable service to the school.

Moreover, officers of the Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) rendered an intermission number, demonstrating student participation and solidarity in honoring women.

To promote interactive engagement, the celebration included games facilitated by the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Organization, Yes-O, and Peer Counselors Club, followed by a zumba session led by the MAPEH teachers, fostering physical wellness among participants.

โ€œMay the school community to sustain its commitment to gender equality and inclusive participation beyond the celebration,โ€ Norma T. Albano, Master Teacher I, said in her closing remarks.

To promote child protection and mental health awareness, Luna National High School (LNHS) student leaders recently participated in the Child-Friendly Space and Psychological First Aid Rolling Out Training conducted by St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP).

Participants included LNHS Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) members, Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD), and Yes-O organizations, guided by SSLG Adviser Elizon Verzola, along with student leaders from other high schools in the Luna District.

During the training, SPUP facilitators discussed the concept of Child-Friendly Spaces, where children can feel protected, express themselves freely, and continue learning and playing even during difficult circumstances.

In addition, the facilitators introduced the basics of Psychological First Aid (PFA), a practical approach that teaches individuals how to listen, comfort, and provide appropriate support to people experiencing stress or trauma.

Furthermore, the activity aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to assist children and others experiencing emotional distress, especially during emergencies and difficult situations.

As a result, LNHS student leaders gained valuable insights into promoting childrenโ€™s well-being and supporting mental health within their school and community.

Through this initiative, SPUP also encouraged young leaders to develop compassion, responsibility, and a stronger commitment to building a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

LNHSโ€“GSP extends care, compassion through community outreach

Demonstrating their commitment to service and community engagement, the Girl Scouts of Luna National High School (LNHSโ€“GSP) conducted a community outreach program in Barangay Zumigui, Luna, Apayao on February 7, 2026 and in the school last Friday.

As part of the initiative, Patrol Leader Shean Viernes led a short educational session for 50 children, teaching proper handwashing techniques to promote cleanliness and help prevent common illnesses.

Moreover, GSP members assisted the children in trimming their nails and practicing proper handwashing procedures, reinforcing the importance of good personal hygiene at an early age.

Following the educational activities, the Girl Scouts served warm rice porridge to the beneficiaries.

They also distributed donated clothes and grocery items to 20 families in the community, providing both nourishment and support.

Meanwhile, the outreach program later continued at Luna National High School on March 6, 2026, where eight selected Aeta students also received grocery items and donated clothes as part of the initiative.

Overall, the activity was spearheaded by Troop Leader Emmalyn Pedronan and Patrol Leader Viernes, with the support of the school principal, Imelda Burigsay whose leadership and dedication contributed to the success of the program.

Luna National High School SHS Students Spark Hope at Bayugao ES Outreach

Proving that leadership extends far beyond the four walls of the classroom, the Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students of Luna National High School successfully conducted a community outreach program titled โ€œKapit-Bisig sa Komunidadโ€ at Bayugao Elementary School on January 30, 2026.

The initiative aimed to foster a spirit of service and bayanihan between the senior high students and the local community is aligned with the learning competencies of the subject Community Engagement, allowing students to apply classroom concepts through meaningful, real-world service.

The day kicked off early as the graduating batch arrived with high spirits and bags full of donations. The program officially opened with a series of heartwarming messages, including the statement of purpose delivered by the proponent of the activity, Divina G. Pugyao, and a powerful inspirational message from the school principal, Imelda A. Burigsay. The presence of Major Christopher John A. Dacayo of the Philippine Army, along with his comrades, and Bayugao ES Head Teacher Marilou D. Barroga further emphasized the collaborative nature of the event showing students that community building is a shared responsibility.

The heart of the outreach was when the Grade 12 students took the lead in distributing much-needed school supplies and learning kits to the eager pupils of Bayugao Elementary School. The atmosphere was electric as the elementary pupils received their new materials, followed by a series of high-energy parlor games hosted by assigned student groups. Laughter echoed across the campus as the seniors bonded with the children, momentarily trading their textbooks for game whistles and prizes.

Following the fun and games, the Food Committee organized a feeding program and snack-sharing session allowing the LNHS students interact more personally with the younger learners, sharing stories over a simple meal.

The event concluded with the official turnover of donationsโ€”a culmination of weeks of preparation and fundraising by the senior batch.

The success of โ€œKapit-Bisig sa Komunidadโ€ was made possible through the unwavering guidance and support of the LNHS Payanan campus faculty members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure smooth logistics.

The activity was further strengthened by the strong partnership with the 1406th Apayao Community Defense Center (CDC), the 14th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG), the RESCOM, and the Philippine Army. Additionally, Master Teacher and activity proponent Dalisay D. Ralustian provided valuable insights and delivered the closing remarks, reminding the students that while their senior year is coming to an end, their journey as community builders is just beginning.

As the documentation team captured the final group photos at noon, the tired yet beaming faces of the Grade 12 students told the whole story. They did not simply fulfill an academic requirementโ€”they left a lasting mark on Bayugao Elementary School, proving that when the youth of Luna National High School join hands, they can truly make a difference.
