NEWS - The Philippine College of Chest Physicians - Negros Chapter in coordination with the Philippine Pediatric Society Negros Occidental Chapter Bacolod City Health Office hosted the “Beat The V**e” campaign today, July 25th, at the gymnasium of St. Scholastica’s Academy of Bacolod City, Inc.

In light of the World No To***co and No Smoking Month, the campaign anchored on the slogan, “Beat the V**e. Ditch Toxicity. Breathe Freely.,” — is a movement toward smoke and vape-free schools around the province.

The anti-va**ng campaign started with an opening prayer led by Micah Therese Buenaflor, the High School Student Council (HSSC) Secretary. Following that, the national anthem was sung by both grade school and high school students.

Host DJ Morena welcomed the students to the program proper. The opening remarks were then given by Dr. Regina T. Buenaflor, the school’s physician. “Let us all be educated and enlightened this morning,” Dr. Buenaflor stated. Afterwards, an informative video on the effects of va**ng by West Visayas State University (WVSU) students taking up medicine was presented.

Next was “Unmasking the V**e”, which was a youth health talk initiated by Dr. Paolo Hilado, a member of the PCCP. His discussion explained what the dangers of va**ng are. “We are not sure what’s exactly inside these liquids,” stated the resource speaker.

A short Q&A portion titled the “V**e Busters Quiz” followed, led by Dr. Alvin Agustin, Head of the Council of Children and Community Advocacy. Multiple students took to the stage, answered the questions and received prizes.

HSSC President Mikaela Lizares delivered words of encouragement to her fellow students as she denounced the practice of va**ng and advised them to strive toward healthier futures. Dr. Sherry Gail Jaloro, President of the PCCP Negros Chapter, gave her closing remarks as the talk ended. This was succeeded by the introduction of the “Handprint Wall,” a symbol of students’ commitment to avoiding the practice of va**ng. This was monitored by Dr. Mariella Cuñada, Vice President of the PCCP Negros Chapter. Class officers of each section and members of the HSSC were called to place their handprints to represent their classes and departments. Afterwards, Mrs. Claude Feliza Ganaban, the School Principal, offered words of gratitude on behalf of the Scholastican community. Certificates of appreciation were then given to the resource speakers who gave their insights, formally closing the event.

SSA-B’s participation in the “Beat The V**e Campaign” is a testament to their commitment towards ensuring the formation of socially aware students who are also instilled with proper health management.

Today, we celebrate St. Benedict, known for his deep faith and the Rule that shaped monastic life. As the twin brother of St. Scholastica, his legacy lives on not only in monasteries but also in the hearts of Scholasticans around the world.

May his life of prayer and work continue to guide us.

March 5, 2025, we gather to celebrate Ash Wednesday. 🛐

We invite all students to reflect on this meaningful moment in our spiritual journey. It’s a time for introspection and renewal, encouraging us to embrace the values of humility and compassion. Let the ashes be a reminder of our commitment to grow, not just academically, but personally and spiritually. Together, we can support one another in this transformative season of Lent. 🫂💜

“This is the power of the people. The power to bring about change. The power to restore democracy.” - Cory Aquino

EDSA Day serves as a reminder of the power of unity and peaceful revolution in shaping our democracy. It celebrates the courage of our fellow Filipinos who fought for freedom and justice. On this day, we honor the sacrifices made for a better future, for ourselves and more to come. Let EDSA inspire us to continue striving for equality and peace. May the spirit of EDSA live on in our hearts and actions. 🇵🇭💛
