Seventeen track and field teams and 20 taekwondo squads will vie for top honors in the 26th Season of the Philippine University Games, which will be held in Bacolod City and the neighboring Silay and Talisay cities on Oct. 23-30.
Athletics tournament manager Elena Roma said at least 150 athletes representing nine men’s and eight women’s teams will see action in the events scheduled Oct. 25-27 at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Taekwondo competition has attracted 10 schools which will all field their teams in both men and women’s categories.
The men’s athletics entries come from Colegio de Sta. Catalina Alexandrina, Liceo de Cagayan University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, University of St. La Salle, University of San Agustin, University of the Philippines-Cebu and Xavier University.
All schools participating in the men’s events are also fielding their women’s teams except TUP. Harny Tabuada, taekwondo tournament manager, said 10 schools signed up for the competition.
The schools, which are fielding both men and women’s players, are led by 2024 champions University of Mindanao (men) and Polytechnic University of the Philippines (women).
The other competitors come from Ateneo de Davao University, Central Philippine University, Holy Angel University, Liceo de Cagayan University, University of St. La Salle, University of San Agustin, University of the Philippines-Cebu and VMA Global College.
