🥲🥲🥲
Please hear me out first...
I was having lunch with a former workmate last week... nothing serious, just the usual “kumusta ka na?” catch-up.
He told me about something that happened a few years ago.
Life was steady back then... regular job, rent paid, kids in school, a small savings tucked away for emergencies.
Then one day, the company announced massive layoffs.
He wasn’t worried at first… until his name was on the list.
No warning. No time to prepare.
Within a month, the savings were gone. By the next month, bills kept piling up.
He tried borrowing from relatives and friends… but almost everyone said the same thing: “I’m sorry… things are tight for us too.”
Not because they didn’t care... but because they had their own battles to fight.
Parang baha... when your house is drowning, it’s hard to expect rescue from a neighbor whose home is also sinking.
That story stuck with me.
Because the truth is, no one is safe from sudden storms... and when they hit, no one owes us a rescue.
That’s why we need to build our own lifeboat before the storm comes.
Get HMO. Get insurance. Build an emergency fund. Save and invest.
In short... protect your finances.
Not because you’re expecting the worst,
but because one day… your life may depend on it.
Good news: He has a new job now.... he’s working as an OFW in Dubai.
