Tides may rise and fall, but it's in the vast saltwater stream that our vessels remain afloat and unwavering to set sail en route to the masses.

There are only three days left before our voyages into the wider seas to chase freedom beyond the horizon.

When journalism moves beyond centers of power, Neil Eco reminds us that the nation’s story is shaped in the everyday lives of its people. As a community journalist and news producer for Altermidya – People’s Alternative Media Network, Neil grounds their work in the realities of marginalized sectors, reporting grassroots economic, political, social, and cultural issues.

This coming , step into the margins where stories are not side notes but central to the Filipino narrative. Join Neil as we listen closer to communities, surface overlooked experiences, and bring forward voices from the peripheries, helping build a fuller and more honest account of the nation.

Journalists bridge the gap between silence and justice, amplifying the struggles of the marginalized into a call for accountability that refuses to bend under a higher power.

Yet in recent events, this duty has often been met with peril. The hands that hold the pen are often the first to be painted red, to be condemned to silence.

The Spectrum stands firm in the truth that reporting to, for, and by the masses is not cause for reprehension, because to protect journalists is to protect the stories that define the lived realities of our communities.

Service beyond requirement stood as a central theme as students of the National Service Training Program gathered at the University Coliseum for the Culminating Rites, marking the end of the year-long series of community outreach and trainings, May 2.

Urging student participation in nation-building, Rear Admiral Jay Tristan Tarriela, Philippine Coast Guard Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea said, “We owe this to the Filipino heroes that risked their lives so all of us today would be free,” stressing shared responsibility in protecting the nation.

The culmination also featured the induction of students into the National Service Reserve Corps Batch Academic Year 2026-2029 through a pledge of volunteerism, highlighting the program's transition from being an academic requirement to a lifelong responsibility grounded in volunteerism, civic responsibility, and nation-building.
