Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, a Chicago native, has been elected as the 267th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Taking the name Pope Leo XIV, he becomes the first American to ascend to the papacy. With a background in missionary work in Peru and leadership within the Augustinian Order, Pope Leo XIV is poised to lead the Church with a message of peace, unity, and compassion. His election marks a historic moment in the Church's history.
