The Witcher 3 is getting another upgrade. And somehow, Geralt still refuses to retire.
CD Projekt Red has announced a major new visual and gameplay overhaul for The Witcher 3, arriving September 29.
This isn't simply a resolution bump. The update brings improved textures, rendering, lighting and path tracing, alongside refinements to combat, camera behavior, targeting, animations, movement and even Roach's handling.
The skill tree is being reworked, transmog is being added, Photo Mode is being expanded, and new finishers are coming as well. And, of course, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine remain part of the experience.
But the part I appreciate most?
Existing owners get the upgrade for free.
No new $70 purchase. No "Ultimate Definitive Complete Legendary Edition of the Wolf 2.0" nonsense. If you already own The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red is simply giving you another reason to return to one of the greatest RPGs ever made.
And honestly, after all these years, that's exactly how a game should be treated.
A great game shouldn't become irrelevant just because newer hardware exists. If developers can revisit an old masterpiece, improve it properly, and bring those improvements to the players who already supported it, that's something worth celebrating.
The Witcher 3 has already survived multiple console generations, countless playthroughs, hundreds of hours of exploration, an unreasonable number of contracts, and Roach getting stuck on approximately every object in existence.
Apparently, none of that was enough to stop Geralt.
September 29.
The White Wolf rides again.
And yes, I already know where my next several hundred hours are going.
