𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. Nine STIers Named Top 30 iLACE Fellows in Visayas

Nine (9) students from STI West Negros University (STIWNU) have been recognized as part of the Top 30 Fellows in the Visayas for the iMPACT Leadership Academy for Civic Empowerment (iLACE) Regional 2026 Fellowship Program, marking a significant achievement in leadership and civic engagement.

Representing three colleges, the Fellows are Aaron Per Miranda, Khesly Ann M. Plomeda, Kent Sander Tsushima, Jerick Sumpay, Jeann Patricia Granzon, and Gilberto Genit from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS); Karl Ace D. Tolentino and Lovely Joy Pabiania from the College of Education (COED); and Gian Lawrence P. Ulgasan from the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM).

Over the course of four weeks, these students joined peers across the region in intensive online sessions on civic responsibility, political communications, network building, and community mobilization, strengthening their capacity as civic and transformational leaders.

As part of their recognition, the nine Fellows will also participate in the upcoming Visayas Regional iLACE Workshop on September 25–27, where they will further apply their learnings, build stronger networks, and continue their journey toward transformational leadership.

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. CHTM Showcase Skills, Creativity at 26th Provincial Tourism Week

Students from the College of Hospitality and Tourism Management (CHTM) of STI West Negros University (STIWNU) showcased their skills and creativity during the Tourism Week School Hour Activity as part of the 26th Provincial Tourism Week of Negros Occidental, held at Ayala Malls Capitol Central on September 10.

Anchored on the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” the celebration focused on the growing role of digital technology and artificial intelligence in transforming tourism, hospitality, and travel experiences.

Provincial Tourism Officer (PTO) Diana Jane Pineda delivered an inspirational message, emphasizing the importance of tourism in the province and the need for innovation in developing the industry. “Your passion and creativity inspire us and remind us that the future of tourism is indeed in your hands,” she said.

Highlights of the program included a flight safety demonstration by Aiyshabib Grace Tuplano, Bea Gisella Dajeros, and Marc Lawrenz Espinosa, showcasing their preparedness and knowledge of aviation safety procedures. A tour-guiding demonstration by Andrie Mahinay also highlighted the communication and presentation skills essential to providing meaningful tourist experiences.

Hospitality Management (HM) students also demonstrated their technical skills through table napkin folding and a flairtending presentation.

Dr. Jake Mercado, Director of Student Affairs, and Ms. Sharinne Dela Cruz were also present to discuss student development and the importance of preparing learners for the evolving demands of the tourism industry.

The celebration featured performances from the Glee Club, folk dance presentations, and other intermission numbers before concluding with a finale production and the acknowledgment of the morning committee and participating students.

Through their active participation, STIWNU CHTM students demonstrated that tourism education extends beyond the classroom, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in an industry-centered setting.

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. STIWNU Tests Emergency Response in NSED

STI West Negros University (STIWNU) conducted a Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) and fire safety demonstration, involving students, faculty, and staff in emergency response procedures for ground-shaking and fire scenarios on September 10.

Organized for demonstration purposes by the university's Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) unit under the National Service Training Program (NSTP), together with College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) interns, the exercise commenced when the campus public address system broadcast an alarm simulating an explosion and structural fire at the former Basic Education Building (BEB).

The drill featured coordinated efforts from several emergency response groups, with the university’s Student Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Unit (SDRRMU) initiating student evacuation procedures, the Amity Rescue Unit (ARU) conducting a high-angle rescue simulation, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) managing simulated large-scale rescue and suppression operations. Other participating agencies included the Office of Civil Defense Negros Island Region (OCDNIR), Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BCDRRMO), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Local Government Unit (LGU).

The event forms part of STIWNU's regular safety initiatives aimed at maintaining campus disaster preparedness and testing emergency response protocols.

After the thrilling exam week, the University Student Council (USC) of STI West Negros University (STIWNU) gave free Milo drinks to students at the Student Leaders’ Hub (SLH) on September 11.

Students from different departments joined the initiative, where the treat was served by the council officers themselves.

The activity allowed students to relax and recharge after the preliminary examinations.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗲

Some people walk into classrooms, sit beside us, laugh at our jokes—or make us laugh—wear a big smile, and go through the day as if everything is fine.

We see them every day, but we may never know what happens when the laughter fades and the room goes quiet.

Today, on World Su***de Prevention Day, we are reminded that not every cry for help sounds like a cry.

Sometimes, it sounds like, “I’m just tired.”
Sometimes, it looks like silence. Distance. A smile worn a little too well.
And sometimes, it is us.

We have grown accustomed to asking, “Kumusta?” without staying long enough for the answer. We say, “Kaya mo na,” thinking strength is always the answer, when sometimes, a person simply needs permission to feel—to fall apart without being made to feel broken.

Sometimes, they do not need words. They need someone to sit beside them in the quiet.

Someone to say, “You don’t have to carry this alone.”

Su***de prevention is not only about recognizing the signs. It is about creating a world where people do not have to hide their pain behind a smile just to make it through the day.

It is listening without judgment. Checking in. Staying.

Because a message may arrive on an ordinary night and mean everything to someone. A small act of kindness may become a thread they hold onto when everything else feels like it is slipping away. We may never know which moments become someone’s reason to stay.

So today, let us remember those we have lost, but let us also look closely at those who are still here.

Behind every “I’m okay” may be a heart quietly asking, “Will someone notice if I’m not?”

Let us make it easier to speak about pain. Easier to ask for help. Easier to say, “I’m not okay.”

And to the one reading this who is struggling: What you feel is real, and your pain is valid, but it does not have to define where your story goes next. You matter—not only for what you can give, not only for the people who need you, but simply because you are here.

You may not see a way forward tonight. That is okay. You do not have to figure out your whole life in just one night. Just stay for the next moment. Hold on to whatever small piece of hope you can find.

Consider this your sign to stay.

There are still mornings you have not seen, people you have not met, laughter you have not heard, and moments waiting to become part of your story.

So, please, stay. The world is not the same without you in it.

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. 2 STI’ers Bag International Luminary Awards, Qualify for Grand Finals

Two (2) students of STI West Negros University (STIWNU) secured spots as international awardees in the International Luminary Awards, with results released by the Institute of Industry and Academic Research Incorporated (IIARI) on September 5.

Earl Leonor Velasco, a second-year College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) student, clinched the International Luminary Awardee title for Academic Leadership. Meanwhile, third-year College of Business Management and Accountancy (CBMA) student Maevin Rafael Jerota was named an International Luminary Awardee for Civic Works.

Following their recognition, both Velasco and Jerota will advance to compete for the Grand Winner title in their respective categories.

𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. Flash Floods in Nepal Leave Over 1,200 Dead, Missing Filipino Confirmed

Catastrophic flash floods swept through the Himalayan border region of Nepal and neighboring Tibet on August 26, leaving more than 1,200 people dead, over 4,700 missing including a Filipino, and an estimated 90,000 affected.

The surge struck without warning, sending massive volumes of water and debris rushing 20 kilometers downstream in just 10 minutes. Villages, roads, bridges, and power facilities across the region were destroyed.

By, August 28, search-and-rescue teams continued digging through thick mud while helicopters evacuated survivors from devastated areas. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed the disaster was caused by a massive glacial collapse that generated seismic activity equivalent to a magnitude 5.2 earthquake.

An analysis by the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) indicated that an ice-and-rock avalanche plunged into the Lhende Khola—a tributary of the Bhote Koshi River—triggering a destructive surge of water, sediment, and boulders downstream.

The disaster also affected the local Filipino community. One Filipino, Dr. Juan Carlos "JC" Manalo, a 30-year-old physician traveling in the area, was reported missing. His phone was last tracked in Timure, Nepal minutes before the flood. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have coordinated with his family for DNA profiling.

Government figures record 18 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Nepal under the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), while DFA data indicates 128 Filipinos reside in the country overall.

Furthermore, Benison Estreja, a specialist from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), noted that a similar event is unlikely in the Philippines. He explained that the extreme severity of the Nepal flood resulted from the immense potential energy released as massive volumes of water and debris rushed downhill from extreme high elevations.

𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂?

Every exam, there’s always a different type of student and different scenarios.

There’s someone who reviews and comes prepared with every formula and concept memorized, someone who’s surprised that it’s already exam season, someone who doesn’t review because they couldn’t fully grasp the topics, and, of course, the usual student whose motto is, “Bahala na si Batman!”

Some come armed with reviewers, notes, and highlighters. Some come armed with nothing but confidence. And some? They come with prayers, a ballpen, and the hope of remembering their “stock knowledge.”

Then there’s that magical moment when you read the question and think, “I swear, I’ve seen this before.” You just don’t remember where, when, or under what circumstances.

As STIers face the Prelims Examination, one question remains: Are you prepared, still planning to review, or would you just leave the rest to Batman?

Every exam is another chance to learn, grow, and prove to yourself that you can do it. Review well, breathe deeply, and may the answers you need magically appear in your memory.

Good luck, STIers! Stay focused, and trust the hard work you’ve put in. You’ve got this. Aim High!

𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦. STIWNU CBMA Hosts First Friday Mass

In prayer and thanksgiving, the College of Business and Accountancy (CBMA) of STI West Negros University (STIWNU) spearheaded the university’s First Friday Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Dave Ryan Treyes at the University Gymnasium on September 4.

The celebration was attended by university officials, administrators, faculty, staff, and students, alongside board passers from the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE). The new criminology professionals offered thanksgiving for their recent success in the Criminologist Licensure Examination (CLE).

Furthermore, the university extended its support to incoming College of Education (COED) examinees as they prepare to take the Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (LEPT) on September 20.

The Eucharistic celebration was sponsored by the CBMA Department, with musical leadership provided by the STI Glee Club.
