FILIPINOS: STOP BLIND FANATICISM IN POLITICS
My fellow Filipinos, let us take a moment to reflect on how political fanaticism affects our lives. Too often, we passionately defend politicians as if they are part of our own families, even when they have done little to improve our daily struggles. We argue, fight, and even break friendships over them—yet, in the end, who really benefits? Certainly not us.
Politicians like the Marcoses and the Dutertes, regardless of their promises, live a far different reality from ours. They have wealth, power, and influence that secure their future, while many of us continue to work hard just to make ends meet. When their terms end, they retire comfortably, while we are left to deal with rising prices, unemployment, and lack of opportunities. Why should we dedicate our lives to defending people who do not even know our names? Because mental health problems in the Philippines is so real and it grows rampant causing stress and anxieties due to the Marcos-Duterte political and civil war.
Instead of being blind followers, let us be critical thinkers. Support leaders based on their actions and accountability, not because of family names, empty promises, or political colors. If they fail us, we have the right to demand better. We must stop treating politics like a celebrity fan club.
At the end of the day, our loyalty should be to our country and our future — not to any politicians or supporters like the Marcos-Duterte UniTeam. Let’s prioritize our families, our well-being, and our own progress instead of wasting energy defending people who will never fight for us in return.
