Students have accepted stress as a routine element of their academic experience. The combination of deadlines and exams and projects and family and teacher expectations creates a situation that students find hard to handle. Students typically spend their nights studying for schoolwork while they fret about their academic performance. Students develop themselves through their growth which comes from their capacity to manage stress.

The main reason students experience stress exists because most, if not all, feel that they need to achieve high academic performance. Students aim to meet expectations and achieve top grades because they want to make their families proud. Students attempt to manage their extracurricular activities while maintaining their social connections and fulfilling their personal obligations. Students who face multiple demands need to develop effective time management and priority setting skills to prevent stress from becoming overwhelming.

Many students have discovered methods to transform their stress into productive outcomes. People use pressure as a power source which helps them to enhance their work output and concentrate better. Some people use study schedules and realistic goal setting and brief breaks to maintain their working efficiency. Students use support from their friends and classmates and teachers to help them stay motivated during tough times.

Stress management training teaches students an essential life skill which helps them succeed in both academic and professional settings. Students who practice simple organizational methods and adequate sleep and positive thinking will experience significant advantages. Students who learn to manage their difficulties in a calm and responsible way will develop trust in their skills.

The outcome of stress leads to two possibilities which include failure and burnout. Proper handling of stress enables people to use it as a path to personal development and success. The process of learning to handle pressure permits students to use their challenges as a foundation for achievement. Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, students can view stress as an opportunity to learn, grow, and become stronger individuals. Through perseverance and determination, the path from stress to success becomes possible.

On March 27, St. John's Institute held their long-awaited year-end Gala with the theme โ€œOnce Upon a Time: Magic Beyond Midnight,โ€ bringing together students from both the Main and North Point Campuses.

This event became a lively night of not only celebration but also recognition for each student to remember, one of the highlights being the recognition of the new set of Supreme Student Council Officers from both campuses through the passing of the key of responsibility.

Additionally, distinguished students were acknowledged for their excellence through the Monsignors Awards, with Marie Quiara Mangaser being awarded the Most Outstanding Student in Service and Leadership, followed by Miguel Alfonso Jison awarded as the Most Outstanding Student in Culture and Arts, and lastly the Thinker's Circle awarded as the Most Outstanding Club.

Another highlight of this event was the Modern Cotillion Competition, where the Top 3 batches were recognized. The Grade 7 Wyverns emerged as the Champion, the Grade 12 Stellars as 1st Runner-Up, and the Grade 9 Wildcards as the 2nd Runner-Up, showcasing their talent and proficiency in dance through elegant performances.

The night concluded with lively performances from the Euphoria and Superficial Band and energetic DJ sessions by Rhys Lacson and Lance Soberano, making this a truly memorable night filled with unity, celebration, and acknowledgment for every Johnian to remember.

The Man at the Gate
By: Ashley Holly

By the time the first cars arrive and the morning sun begins to settle over the campus, Jimmy Javierโ€”โ€œManong Jimmyโ€ to generations of studentsโ€”is already at his post. At 56 years old and with 19 years of service, he has become a quiet but constant figure in the schoolโ€™s daily life. Each morning, he greets students as early as 6 a.m., opening car doors, guiding traffic, assisting with heavy bags, and ensuring that everyone enters the campus safely and smoothly. What may seem like routine tasks are, in reality, acts of steady dedicationโ€”requiring patience, awareness, and a deep sense of responsibility that helps make everyday school life easier for everyone.

Through the years, Manong Jimmy has witnessed countless batches of students pass through the gates. He describes them as playful and sometimes noisy, yet disciplined, respectful, and capable of listening when it matters. From his position, he does more than maintain orderโ€”he becomes part of the environment that shapes it. Rain or shine, in the rush of mornings or the calm of quieter hours, he remains attentive to the small but important details: a student needing help, a moment that requires guidance, a situation that calls for calm. His presence, though often unnoticed, contributes to the sense of structure and safety that students rely on each day.

Behind his consistent service is a story of perseverance and hope. Over nearly two decades, his work at the school has allowed him to rebuild his life and support his family. Today, one of his children has graduated from college, while his other two continue their education in Senior and Junior High School. For Manong Jimmy, every task he performs is part of a bigger purposeโ€”creating a better future for his family. His story reminds us that not all contributions are loud or visible; some are found in quiet consistency, in showing up every day, and in making a difference through simple acts of service that keep everything else running.

Jhairo Bernard Tisuela, a Grade 7 student from St. Johnโ€™s Institute, represented both the school and the Division of Bacolod in the recently concluded Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) 2026 on March 16-17, at Natureโ€™s Village Resort, Talisay City.

Tisuela secured his spot in the English Sports Writing category after placing first in the Division Schools Press Conference, where he bested campus journalists from both public and private junior and senior high schools across Bacolod.

Under the guidance of his school paper adviser and coach Mr. Ricky Baritos, Tisuela competed in the same category, together with 22 other school divisions of the Negros Island Region (NIR).

In addition, Tisuela is a dedicated sports writer from The Falcon Quarterly, and has previously placed in the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) 2025 in the same category, held in Vigan City.

The RSPC is an annually-held event of the Department of Education that aims to promote responsible and ethical journalism among competent campus journalists, making it as a stepping stone to the most coveted National Schools Press Conference.
