Bachelor of Fine Arts students and alumni of La Consolacion College Bacolod are showcasing their creative work at the Bacolod Nexxus Art and Tech Convention, held Aug. 22-23 at Ayala Malls Capitol Central.
Organized by Bams and Beyond, the two-day convention provides a public platform for artists, creatives and technology enthusiasts through exhibits, interactive booths, demonstrations and other activities.
LCC Bacolod’s participation highlights works from students and alumni of the Architecture, Fine Arts and Interior Design, or ARFIEN, Department, giving them an opportunity to present their creative practice beyond the classroom and engage directly with a wider audience.
Ms. Larissa Pacheco, program head of the Bachelor of Fine Arts, said participation in the convention allows students to experience how art operates within a broader creative community.
“Opportunities like this allow our students to bring their work into a public space, engage with other artists and audiences, and see how their ideas can contribute to the growing creative community in Bacolod,” Pacheco said. “It is also important for them to understand that being an artist involves not only producing work but also communicating, collaborating and building connections.”
Several Fine Arts faculty members are participating alongside student organizations representing different areas of creative practice. Ms. Ariane Nichole Andrada is involved with Artists’ Forum; Mr. Jose Buglas Carreon with Painting Legion; Mr. June Alfred Flores with ArtTeasans Podcast; Mr. Renzell John Panase with Ctrl+Z; Mr. John Catubigan with Kostumbre; and Mr. Edmund Bacia with ADV Corps.
The participating clubs — Artists’ Forum, Painting Legion, ArtTeasans Podcast, Ctrl+Z, Kostumbre and ADV Corps — feature interactive activities and creative outputs that reflect the range of interests and disciplines being developed within the Fine Arts program.
LCC Bacolod President Sr. Flolyn Catungal, OSA, said exposing students to public creative platforms complements the institution’s efforts to form professionals who can use their talents in meaningful engagement with society.
“Art has the capacity to communicate, inspire and bring people together,” Catungal said. “When our students share their creativity with the wider community, they are also learning that their gifts can become a form of service and a way of contributing to culture and society.”
The convention also provides Fine Arts alumni an opportunity to reconnect with the academic community and demonstrate how skills developed through their education continue to evolve through professional and independent creative practice.
Through its participation in the Bacolod Nexxus Art and Tech Convention, LCC Bacolod continues to strengthen experiential learning by connecting Fine Arts students with practicing artists, audiences and emerging creative communities in the city.
