Today we celebrate our anniversary and father's day. 10 years married though we’ve been together way longer than that (we honestly lost count 😅). We’ve been through so much. So many ups and downs and trials that could’ve shaken us but God has been so faithful. He continues to bless us, grow us, and hold us together.

Jv, thank you for loving us, leading us, and staying grounded through it all. The kids and I are so blessed to call you ours.

If you're craving a refreshing escape not too far from Bacolod, Bambi Falls in Binalbagan, Negros Occidental should be on your list. It is easily one of the best waterfalls I have seen on the island. Raw, serene, and simply unforgettable.

The water is cool and gentle, like standing under soft rainfall. You can go directly under the falls and still feel safe, which makes it ideal even for kids. The basin is not deep, and the surrounding area is wide enough for children to play and roam freely.

From Bacolod, we drove for about an hour and a half, passing through the scenic Hermit Mountain in Biao. The road is mostly cemented. Although some portions are still under construction, any type of vehicle can manage the drive. We parked and trekked for around a kilometer. The trail is beginner friendly, and you will not need a guide.

You will know you are close when you reach the metal stairs and walk over giant boulders. Just be extra careful if you have kids with you. But once you catch that first glimpse of the falls, it is pure magic. Surrounded by lush mountains and nature’s stillness, Bambi Falls is the kind of place that makes you forget your worries.

Negros has many beautiful spots, but this one is truly something special.

For this year’s Mother’s Day, we decided to take a break and escape to the serene Sipaway Island in San Carlos, Negros Occidental. After hearing about Baibayon resort, we thought it would be the perfect place to unwind, enjoy nature, and make some beautiful memories as a family. My in-laws joined us too, which made the trip even more special and meaningful.

How to get there:

The journey to the resort was quite the adventure. To reach the island, we took a pump boat ride to Dapdap. The boat fare is very affordable, just 20 pesos for adults and 10 pesos for children. Once we arrived at Dapdap, we hired a tricycle to take us the remaining 10-minute ride to Baibayon Resort. The fare for the tricycle was also 20 pesos per person, which made it easy and convenient to get to the resort.

Entrance fee:

Upon arrival, we paid an entrance fee of 50 pesos per adult. Children 7 years old and below can enjoy the resort for free, which was a pleasant surprise. Since the cottages were already fully booked, we opted to rent tables and chairs for 200php instead. We were lucky to find a spot under a large tree, which was perfect because it provided a natural shade, making it cool and comfortable.

The powdery sand at Baibayon Resort was another highlight. It was soft and inviting, perfect for lounging or walking along the shore. One of our favorite spots in the resort was the bamboo bridge that stretches through the mangrove forest. To reach it, we had to cross the water. In the morning, the tide was high, but it was only about waist-deep, so it was manageable and fun.

Facilities and Amenities:

The other side of the resort has cottages too, but we were especially drawn to the bamboo benches set up in the water. These benches allowed us to rest under the shade of the mangrove trees when the sun was too hot. It was the perfect place to relax while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere. Of course, we couldn’t resist jumping into the water for a swim, and the kids had a blast playing on the swing.

Baibayon Resort also has a small store where you can buy snacks and drinks, which was really convenient. For overnight stays, the resort offers rooms for accommodation, and if you’re into camping, you can bring your own tent and set it up. There’s also a videoke machine available for rent if you’re in the mood for singing.

If there’s one thing I would suggest, it would be for the resort to add more bathrooms and comfort rooms. Currently, there is only one public bathroom for both boys and girls, which can be a bit inconvenient during busy times.

But overall, we had a wonderful time at Baibayon Resort. The staff were incredibly accommodating, which made our experience even more enjoyable. Despite the few things I wish were improved, like the limited bathrooms, the beautiful surroundings, the activities, and the overall vibe of the resort made it a memorable getaway. We’ll definitely be back for another visit!

If you're looking for a peaceful, family-friendly spot to enjoy nature, Baibayon Resort on Sipaway Island is definitely worth a visit!

Why We Camp (And Why Our Kids Should, Too)

We camp not just to escape the noise of the city, but to find the kind of silence where memories speak loudest.
It’s in the taste of marshmallows slightly burnt over a crackling fire and the stories shared under a sky full of stars.

Camping slows us down. It invites us to look up, breathe deeply, and truly be present with ourselves, with nature, and most importantly, with our kids.

For our children, camping is freedom.
It’s the joy of waking up with messy hair and muddy feet, of chasing grasshoppers, learning to pitch a tent, and realizing that fun doesn’t always need a screen.

Out there in the wild, in the mountains, or under the trees. they learn the value of simplicity, resourcefulness, teamwork, and wonder.
They grow closer to nature, and closer to us.

Because someday, when they’re grown, they won’t remember the toys we bought.
They’ll remember the night we all squeezed into one tent during the rain, the way the stars looked so close, and how they felt completely safe surrounded by trees and the people who love them the most.

So go ahead, camp. With your kids. While they’re still little.
Because nature doesn’t just give us memories.
It gives us connection.

For Bran’s birthday, we ditched the city heat (hello, almost 40 degrees!) and escaped to Camp Forest Springs which is a place surrounded by trees, fresh air, and nothing but nature’s best.

The entrance fee is 100 php per head, 200php for cars, and 100pjp for tent pitching. They also have overnight accommodations if you want a comfier stay, plus a pool for cooling off. But the real gem? Their tuburan (spring) just a short walk away, ice-cold and perfect for beating the heat.

Aside from the chill vibe, the place is well-kept, the bathrooms are clean, and the caretakers are super accommodating. We kept the celebration simple. the kids ran around and just soaked in the peace and quiet. Even better, we got to spend time with my ex-colleagues Gester and Seia! Our kids met for the first time and instantly clicked. They loved the vibe of each other so much that we’re already excited to plan our next camping trip.

Would we go back? In a heartbeat.

Negros Oriental just got another bragging right. Balinsasayao Twin Lakes is now officially an ASEAN Heritage Park! If you haven't been here yet, trust me, you're missing out on one of the most breathtaking spots in the province.

Lake Balinsasayao and Lake Danao are two stunning crater lakes surrounded by dense rainforest. The drive up alone is an adventure. winding roads, fresh mountain air and, if you’re lucky, a sea of clouds below you.

The ASEAN Heritage Park status isn’t just for any beautiful place, it’s given to placeswith exceptional ecological value.

The forests here are home to rare birds, endemic plants, and freshwater species. If you're into birdwatching, you might spot the Visayan Hornbill or the vibrant Philippine Hanging Parrot. And if you’re just here for the views, well… they’re absolutely worth the trip.

What You Can Do Here

✅ Boating & Kayaking – Paddle across the peaceful waters while being surrounded by towering trees. Bonus: no noisy engines, just you and nature.

✅ Hiking & Trekking – There’s a short trek to the View Deck, where you get the best panoramic view of both lakes. Worth every step!

✅ Birdwatching – If you’re patient (and quiet), you’ll spot some rare feathered friends.

✅ Picnicking – Pack a good meal, find a cozy spot, and just enjoy the peace.

Best Time to Visit: Mornings are the best, cooler weather, clearer views, and fewer people.

How to Get There: From Dumaguete, it's about 40 minutes by motorbike or private car. If you're commuting, you can take a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) from Sibulan.

Entrance Fees: There’s a small fee to enter the park, and boat rentals have separate charges.

What to Bring: Comfortable shoes, water, snacks, and a camera (because you will want photos!).

If you haven’t been here yet, consider this your sign. Plan a trip, breathe in the fresh mountain air, and see for yourself why Balinsasayao Twin Lakes is one of Negros Oriental’s best-kept treasures.

On our recent road trip from Bacolod to Dumaguete, we made a quick stop at Mabinay Spring and I'm so glad we did.

With my dad as our ever-reliable driver, we took a break from the long drive to stretch our legs and let our guests from Bicol and Manila enjoy a little piece of Negros. Sloane was her usual curious self, taking in everything around her. The place was so peaceful. Clear blue-green water, towering trees, and that cool breeze makes you want to just sit and take it all in.

We didn't get in the water. We just stayed by the side, watching people swim and listened to the gentle splash of the spring. It was one of those simple moments where you just appreciate the beauty around you.

If you're ever on this route, make that stop. Mabinay Spring is one of those places that reminds you to slow down and enjoy the journey not just the destination.
