Instead of staying backstage or waiting for the program cue, Mayor G stepped into the Plaza where the young MassKara dancers sat and performed despite the unpredictable weather. It was a full circle moment when he walked through the rain to meet young performers - those children were much like how he once was in the 80s. One by one, he shook their hands, rainwater trickling from their sleeves, and told them, āSalamat gid. Bacolod is proud of you.ā
In that moment, the true spirit of MassKara wasnāt in the lights, the colorful dances, or the loud speakers. It was in the dripping costumes, the laughter and cheer echoing through the Plaza, and a leader choosing to acknowledge the unwavering spirit of these brave, young Bacolodnon children to carry the torch for his beloved city.
Maybe thatās what MassKara really is, not just the bright masks or the loud music, but those little moments when we choose to stand with each other, even when it seems inconvenient, even when itās raining. It's a reminder that even when the skies turn gray, Bacolod chooses to smile, dance, and walk through the rain together.
That's how Bacolod City has always endured. We do not wait for clear skies, but we find joy in the storm together. As long as we do that, through sunshine or storm, we will always be stronger together. š§”
