VEHICLE MISHAP LEAVES ₱400K FIRE DAMAGE IN BACOLOD GAS STATION

READ: A fire broke out at a gasoline station along Gatuslao Street, Barangay 11, Bacolod City early this morning, August 23, 2025, sparking a fire that left an estimated ₱400,000 in damage.

One of the pump attendants said in the video that the car suddenly lurched forward, toppling the pump which immediately went up in flames. Pump attendants quickly ran for safety and called for help.

Responding Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel—20 in total—were able to contain the fire in less than a minute, preventing it from spreading further. The fuel pump machine was partially damaged, but no injuries were reported in the incident. Investigation is ongoing. | via Cesar Jolito III/WDJ

Eight-year-old Lionel Nickolai Binguan of Bacolod City’s Barangay Estefania, contributed to the Philippine representatives’ triumph in the Plate Division of the Johor Cup in Malaysia.

Binguan, a Grade 3 student at the University of St. La Salle, scored seven goals during the tournament while also dishing out several key assists that helped secure the team’s victory.

Kiesha Bedonia made the most of her starting role as the PLDT High Speed Hitters swept the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-16, 25-14, 25-18, to kick off their 2025 PVL Invitational campaign at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday, August 21.

The Negrense hitter scored six points while providing stability on the wing, helping the High Speed Hitters overcome the absence of regular starters Savannah Davison, Kianna Dy and Kim Fajardo.

The Negros Occidental provincial government stressed the need for constant dialogue with the Silay City government to resolve concerns over water security in the province, amid the city’s opposition to its P1.1-billion bulk water supply project.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II said negotiations with city officials will continue following Silay Mayor Joedith Gallego’s refusal to endorse a Resolution of No Objection for the project.

Negros Occidental has recorded more than 4,000 dengue cases this year, with nine deaths reported, according to the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

Based on Morbidity Week 33 data, covering January 1 to August 16, the province logged 4,093 dengue cases, marking a 28.91 percent increase compared to the 3,175 cases recorded in the same period last year.

While government records show that more than P10.7 billion worth of flood control projects have been implemented across Negros Occidental since 2022, the provincial government is shifting focus towards alternative disaster preparedness measures to better respond to recurring floods.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II said the Capitol has invested its disaster funds in strengthening the capacity of responders and rescuers, rather than funding flood control structures.
