llicit Cigarette Smuggling Busted in EB Magalona; Php 2.8M Worth of Contraband Seized
EB Magalona, Negros Occidental – The EB Magalona Municipal Police Station, led by PMAJ ERIC F DORONILA, Chief of Police, conducted an anti-smuggling operation that resulted in the seizure of Php 2.8 million worth of illicit ci******es in Barangay Pasil at around 6:50 PM on May 27, 2025.
The operation was conducted in line with the enforcement of Section 263 of the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC) of 1997, as amended, which prohibits the unlawful possession or removal of articles subject to excise tax without the payment of the required tax.
Apprehended at the scene was also known as “Aka Marciano,” 67 years old, male, married, a resident of Daan Banwa, Barangay 9, Victorias City, Negros Occidental. His alleged accomplice, also known as “ John Mark,” 32 years old, and of the same address, remains at large.
Recovered during the operation were 140 boxes of Brave ci******es, believed to have been smuggled and sold without the proper tax stamps. The confiscated items are now under the custody of the EB Magalona Police Station.
Meanwhile, PCOL RAINERIO M DE CHAVEZ, Provincial Director of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, commended the efforts of the EB Magalona Police for their intensified operations against illicit activities.
The case is currently under investigation, and authorities continue to pursue leads to locate and apprehend the remaining suspect.
