PROUDLY PINOY! BALAMBAN, CEBU — Japanese shipbuilder Tsuneishi is constructing the world’s first methanol dual-fuel KAMSARMAX bulk carrier at its Cebu shipyard—a maritime milestone that places the Philippines at the forefront of clean, efficient, and future-ready shipbuilding.

The vessel, which can operate on both methanol and conventional fuel, is designed to reduce CO₂ emissions by 10%, nitrogen oxides (NOₓ) by 80%, and sulfur oxides (SOₓ) by 99%. It integrates environmental, social, and governance (ESG) technologies designed to extend vessel lifespan and performance.

Set for launch in July 2025 and delivery in January 2026, the project marks a key phase in Tsuneishi’s continued expansion in the Philippines, highlighting the country’s growing role in sustainable industrial development.

The KAMSARMAX carrier, measuring 229 meters and with a 98,000 m³ cargo capacity, is commonly used for shipping commodities such as iron ore, coal, and grain. With its breakthrough dual-fuel design, it is poised to set a new standard for the global shipping industry.
