we stayed for a week in iloilo to faci High Rize babies who took the November 2024 CELE. my body was braced to carry significant tension during the exam week, yet surprisingly, i did not feel half the pressure i was mentally preparing for.

our short trip only had little bumps that were quick to iron out because i had with me a reliable support system, my Tita Grace and my love Matthew. 🥹

also, we were able to insert a few side trips, here and there, to see some of the sights in Iloilo we haven't seen in a while. my eyes, my heart — and my belly 😅 — are full of gratitude.

as i scroll through every picture in this 80-photo dump, i can't shake off the feeling that regardless how difficult the past months has been for me, i am still blessed beyond what i deserve. thank you, universe. ✨

a local computer shop quoted me Php 20,000 to replace the LCD and frame of my laptop with genuine parts. but here i am, keeping a conversation with an LCD seller from China and bookmarking Youtube tutorials of technicians fixing an ROG Strix G15. 😅

this emphasized two things i already know about myself: one, i am a cheapskate. 😅 and two, as long as i have internet access, i truly believe i can do anything. 😅

Classes in High Rize started last June 3 and I have been lecturing non-stop since then. That's four months of grueling work yet I don't have a single nice photo to show for it. :(((( I only have this blurry snap of me after a particularly loooong week back in August.

One revealing thing I learned since starting High Rize is how teachers are performers.

I could spend the previous night bawling my eyes out, but the next day when I step in front of the whiteboard, I must be able to set aside my personal storm and deliver my prepared lecture.

For that four-hour period, I have to be what my students need me to be — a mentor, a guide, a problem solver.

In that moment, I cease to be a daughter, sister, friend, or entrepreneur — I am Miss Cha, playing her destined role.

This humbling experience only deepened my admiration for teachers, especially to my Mama who had been committed to this noble profession for the past 35 years.

I looked around Biboy's apartment in La Guardia and I spot a few items he must have taken from home — a family photo taken as souvenir in Vigan; a red checkered foot rug Mama used to place at the front door; and the book Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Yet looking closely, I notice things I've haven't seen before — black crossbody bags hung on the wall; a white four-tier cabinet; and new hampers with new shirts.

"Biboy has really made a life for himself diri sa Cebu," I thought. He's away from the only home he's known for 24 years, yet here he is: learning, thriving, and fighting.

After our four-day trip, I was holding back tears on the Grab ride to the terminal. My heart was aching so bad I want to urge Biboy to come back home, "Makapangita ka lang sa Bacolod bag-o nga ubra. Kung gamay sweldo, paigu-on ta lang. Ang importante, updanay ta tanan."

But, no. Courageous people like him need to spread their wings to know how far they can fly. He has come so far, yet I know he'll go much farther. He is headstrong, smart, and strong-willed. The stars have no choice but to align for him. Wherever he may be, I know he will prosper.

Boy, we miss you every day you're not here. The full might of our family got your back. So do everything your heart desires. Make mistakes. Go make waves. You got this! 🌊

experienced the vibrance of Panaad sa Negros for the first time today! 🎊 i also had my first henna tattoo, where i chose a paw print in honor of my angel Cootie who i miss every day. 🐾

thank ü universe for allowing me to spend this adventure with my partner-in-crime, Nonoy. i wish my future holds more moments like this! 💖

Lately, my to-do list never empties. In fact, the list is already too long I started printing out physical copies. An online tally is no longer enough. I have to see all my pending tasks taped to my door so I don't forget anything.

Despite the heavy workload, I find myself in my natural habitat. I enjoy scheduling, canvassing, budgeting, monitoring, managing crises, and calling the shots. I LOVE being hands-on and intimate with everything I am working on — may it be with curtain colors, budget proposals, specs for aircon units, or syllabi.

In the midst of chaos, I find myself being grateful to all who taught me the soft skills I am using now. To my old elementary and high school teachers, my friends in student publications, and family who loved me along the way, MADAMO NGA SALAMAT!

I wouldn't be able to do half the things I am doing now if not for your love and understanding when I was still learning the ropes. Thank you for seeing the potential in me — no matter how slim. 🥹💖

In the past year, I have witnessed Nonoy cry, laugh, struggle, win, and everything in between. There is more to Nonoy than meets the eye. He is a resilient leader who refuses to go down without a fight; a genius writer-artist who never runs out of good ideas.

He loves his mama, his ipad, and his curated Instagram stories. Not so long ago, he has developed an obsessive love for K-pop especially the song 'Queencard' by (G)I-DLE — his most played Spotify song yet. He is quirky yet relatable; boisterous but hard working.

A lot of people in the school field say, 'Knowledge is power,' and it's certainly true. One of the great manifestations of this phrase is Engr. Charlene, who has been my teacher for two semesters, and she isn't like most teachers.

For her, she doesn't just use the usual ways of teaching and goes beyond that idea; it's like she's carrying a torch, showing us the way, and making every student curious.

Her classes show how engaging she is as a teacher. She stands out not only because she loves civil engineering but also because she really is skilled in her field and uses a variety of effective methods to break down difficult problems. She didn’t let us hang if we didn’t understand the problems we encountered, but she answered them immediately with patience and care.

One subject that left a lasting impact on me is Structural Theory 2; the methods she shared are now invaluable tools I'll carry with me in my academic and professional journey.

But what really sets Miss Cha apart is her empathy. She knows that every student learns in their own way, and she cares about our successes and problems. This makes the class feel open and supported, which helps us get through school with confidence and strength.

Her upbeat and positive demeanor adds a touch of warmth to the sometimes-overwhelming world of civil engineering. She also loves public speaking, which makes it her strength to communicate well with our lessons. She doesn't beat around the bush; her straightforward way of conveying information and considerate teaching style, which involves giving various examples, make the learning process incredibly efficient.

And it's not just about the curriculum with her. Miss Cha goes beyond that; she shares her own struggles and techniques for overcoming challenges, turning her into one of my most inspiring professors.

She's not just a teacher; she's an inspiration."

At face value, I'd say Jun-jun and I are on two ends of a spectrum. But if I scratch beneath the surface, we are more alike than I think.

We're both sticklers for rules; have watched all episodes of Big Bang Theory; and have very short tempers.

Of all these things, I am most grateful for the shared love for Engineering and problem solving. Being the only ones in our family to walk the same professional path, Jun-jun and I are bound by life experiences our other siblings can't relate to. For this, I am thankful. Jun-jun's companionship in this journey is a gift.

Jun, I see how you get back up every time you fall. That's one of the hardest — yet, most rewarding — lessons you need to learn in college. I see you, and I am proud of you. You are resilient; you are courageous; you are kind.
